My Ridiculously Early Start on a 2026 Offseason Plan

He has talent and athletic ability. Question is how high the market will go.

Hendrickson
Oweh
Gary
Phillips
Mafe
Paye
Chaisson

Would like 2, including possible Chaisson re-signing, plus a rookie. Ponder and Swinson for depth. Landry on his last legs.

A trade for Kayvon Thibodeaux also not out of the question.

More EDGE rushers on the market is s good thing. Usually when that happen a couple of guys get most of the attention and break the bank, the rest get ignored, and there are values to be had.

I hope they sign 2 pass rushers (one of whom could be Chaisson, if the price is right), and add one in the draft.
What are thoughts on former 2nd round picks Arnold Ebiketie (6-3 250) and Sam Williams (6-4 260 Williams is very athletic) at Edge? They could be like a Chaisson signing, I would love to see Either signed along with Mafe and then draft an Edge. I think Jennings will be released or traded (I hate that I wrote that). So Landry, Mafe, Ponder, Ebikitie/Williams, Swinson and rook.

Mafe should be around 13M AAV-longer term starter
the 2 others would be an opportunity contract that would be part of a rotation while Ponder, Swinson and the rook develop while being in the rotation.

Your thoughts??

I would love to be able to pick up a lower cost EDGE option. Was very interested in Sam Williams in the draft.

1.50 10-split
4.34 SS

After watching some film college and pro, he seems pretty bad against the run. Vrabel and Kuhr do not seem as concerned about edge setting it seems, so he might be possible

So here's my dilemma at FA EDGE:

- I want to sign/trade for someone more disruptive and with more upside than who we had last year. Oweh, Gary, Phillips and Thibodeaux (trade) serm like the best options. Hendrickson will be too expensive for my taste, especially given age and back medical questions. Mafe might be another option, but only if cheaper and if the others don't pan out.

- Chaisson, Mafe and Kwity Paye are fine complements. But not at $15-17M AAV.

- Which leaves rhe option of signing on a cheap provd ot deal, someone like Sam Williams or Arnold Ebiketie on a cheap prove it deal.

Would you rather spend $30M AAV on Boye Mafe and K'Lavon Chaison ($15M each), or get Oweh/Gary/Thibodeaux/Phillips plus Williams or Ebiketie for less cost?

Imo, Oweh, Gary and Phillips will not be less but probably more expensive because of their +production against the run

I will say it agin, Clowney is being overlook.
He had 8.5 sacks in 13 games last year and is good against the run.
Whether you put any stock in PFF rankings or not, he was highly ranked is and is still very productive.
There's juice left to squeeze there.
I would like him on a 1 year, chase a ring deal.
Vrabel was also the Texan's LB coach for 3 years during Clowney's time there, so there is a connection.
Good connection, who knows?

I don't hate the idea, but he is a 35%-40% defensive snap kinda guy at this point. Landry and Chaisson both played over 60% and Ponder and Jennings were both in the 20%-28% range. We could probably get Clowney for 1/6M. Not sure Ponder is ready to be the 60% guy and Landry is an unknown because of age and injury. You also have to take into account the games that Clowney will miss as well as Landry most likely.

So last year the Pats defense played 1020 or so defensive snaps, so if they bring in Clowney they need to figure out who will be there to cover snaps.

Agreed, they will need a plan.
But he can still be very effective.
8.5 sacks in 13 games with reduced snaps is pretty damn solid.
I think you can get him on the cheap to the point where his production will outweigh his contract.

Cam Jordan would also be someone to add to the older 1 year contract guys while waiting on development of Ponder, Swinson and a rook (assuming we draft someone)

I know we are focused on younger, but there is always a place for a solid vet on a cheap deal when you have playoff aspirations.

Garrett Bradbury traded to the Bears.

So Jared Wilson to center or they really are going for Linderbaum. My guess is the former.
It makes more sense now that they were looking at centers on their pre draft meetings. I honestly don’t know what the plan is here.

Some trades never materialize, you have to scout for all possibilities.
I assume the plan is for Wilson to move to OC, and LG in FA or the draft.
Bradbury wasn't't the best, but based on the camp reports I think he was better than expected so I won't poo on him on the way out, he was a good soldier.
