McDuffie was on his 5th year option. So the Chiefs free up 13M and add 3 picks to help them rebuild.

The fact that they're cutting Jawaan Taylor also helps them by freeing up 20M.

So, they went from being 7M over the cap to having 26M in cap space.

I understand the economics, but KC’s window is always open while they have Mahomes. Getting rid of a very good young player isn’t a recipe for success.

That's true but he'll be coming of an ACL injury
If they want part 2 of another run like the Pats had, they'll need to hit on draft picks

DJ Moore as a #2 WR, I may be in on. But I don't think he is #1. Add Moore as #2 and Pierce or Brown as the #1 (even if it means cutting Diggs and trading Boutte), I would be happy. Moore as the #1 is not going to make me excited.

What is this infatuation with other team's WRs. I'm sure that Thomas Brown knows all about Moore. I'm also sure that if the Pats had wanted him, they'd have attempted to trad for him last year.

Pierce is not a #1. Moore is good, but he's not going to be worth the price.. Neither is Brown.

Because the Pats need an upgrade at WR and the free agents suck for the most part. And Moore was the Bears third WR because he and Williams couldn't get on the same page. I would be surprised if the Bears get more than a 6th or a conditional 5th for him. The guy is a 1,000-1,200 yard WR in the right system.

Funny how they traded Tyreek Hill and ended up using the pick received to move up and draft McDuffee. Not sure how many times you can do that and succeed like that.
I assume he's recovered from the knee injury and is 2 years younger than Hil was when traded.
Seems a weird choice to sign Chris Jones as he turns 30 and let McDuffee go at 25. Think it would have been the other way around.

Hmmmm the Bears have Odunze plus Loveland and Burden last year. They could move DJ Moore I like.

I don't know why the Raiders are in they Drafted Two WR's on Day 2 last year. Jack Beck and Dont'e Thornton Jr.

Is McDuffie worth the largest contract for a CB? Good player, but no.

Kelce is probably retiring and Chris Jones is slowing down. Chiefs are going to struggle for a while even with Mahomes.

Teams with great QBs are always in the mix.
I would be shocked if KC doesn't win their division next season.

It makes plenty of sense to trade him if you know you won't be ab le to afford the $30M/yr contract he's going to get. You trade him now for a bundle and replenish your system with the 3 additional draft picks.

It's about the economics going forward. McDuffie is going to get a contract in the $30M AAV range. The Chiefs have already pushed a ton of Mahomes money down the road including money from this year.

I agree that they shouldn't have signed Jones, but they did. And now they're paying for that decision..
