The point of the halftime show is to rope in viewers who aren't fans, to make sure this is the top ad-sales event of the year and, hopefully, to lure in new fans who get caught up in the game between ads and musical acts. Young people, women, foreign audience, the NFL wants you! Gray-haired American men, the NFL loves you but isn't going to waste its energy attracting you. You're already in the bag.
