Sadly Stafford
I saw on TBD someone suggest Allen should be the MVP, and I think he has a point.

If you take Stafford, Maye, and Allen away from their teams what are their records?

Bills would be competing for the top pick.

I would still have voted for Maye since the Rams have a superior roster and receivers.

The Pats coaching staff is so good though that they would still be better than the Bills.

Tbf he's got a 5x first team all pro, and 2x second team and a defensive player of the year and was on the all decade team.

Being top 2 at your position for basically his whole career is as HOF as you can get.
These awards are becoming self defeating though. Not to argue with you (I think he is HOF caliber myself) but your argument boils down to “we voted him in because we voted for him a lot for other stuff previously”

So now guys have to win these awards today in order to win the future awards? If someone doesn’t make all pro enough then they won’t make the HOF? But when they miss all pro we hear “oh just such a tight year, no big deal” - but then the number of all pro’s is used to decide HOF candidacy, so it IS a pretty freaking big deal.

Whole thing is becoming a joke

He's a good player but he only played 8 seasons at a position where you can amass a bunch of stats that might ultimately mean nothing for the outcome of the game. I can think of a few other LBs who had longer and equal or better careers who probably won't be in the HOF.
He was DROY, DPOY and 7x All-Pro. 8 years is long enough, imo with that kind of resume.

Again, this isn't Terrell Davis, who essentially played 3.5 seasons, who only got in because he was in the media and everyone's friend.

Maye is so humble, I honestly do not believe he cares about the MVP result...he cares deeply about Sunday...excatly how you want your QB thinking. Team first, individual accolades are second.

I can not understand why Orlovsky and Newton have **** all over him.

Brady completely ignores him to hurt the Patriots and to serve his new master, Mark Davis.

8 year career pretty much entirely as one of the 2 best players in the league at your position is technically more hall of fame than someone who was good for 15 years but never great, i would rather let in the elite with shorter careers than a compiler.

Cook is probably better than anyone Drake has to work with.

There's no denying that underqualified people like Sam Monson, Dan Orlovsky are changing the history of football with these votes that one vote for Stafford is going to be huge in swinging his HOF chances, he's a fringe guy with numbers but no playoff wins in Detroit and only 1 ring now having an MVP is huge.

That's why Second Team and the Pro Bowl also exist. Guys who are generally considered best or second best are going to get precedence over other players. Maye didn't win MVP or First Team, but he got Second Team which is a big boost longterm to his argument

I mean the issue is that take Orlovsky out of it, you have 23 to 23 votes. It's not like Orlovsky is out of pocket for voting for a legit candidate. Monson is, but the flipside is he also probably wasn't going to give Maye that vote and another first place vote for Stafford puts us back where we are.

Exactly. Meanwhile this year on NE we had Marcus Jones get completely snubbed by the Pro Bowl in favor of freaking Ray Davis and barely made second team All Pro despite being the literal best PR in the league. That crap adds up, if Jones wants a shot at the Hall he needs these awards to make a case.

Supposedly, but I have a hard time thinking that Second Team is viewed nearly as favorably as First Team by the dinks voting for HOF membership.

He won Defensive Player of the Month for October as well.

I would argue he deserved a lot more defensive accolades this year… at least he got the biggest accolade - a fat raise.

Here’s how the points ranked. Drake lost by 5 points, the equivalent of one second-place vote

If a few folks who presumably voted Allen or McCaffrey 2nd (since they had 91 and 71 points) had instead voted Drake 2nd, Drake may have won the award even with fewer 1st place votes. Which really would’ve been interesting to watch lol

Doing a little bit of math here . . . .

23 firsts = 230; that leaves 131 points unaccounted for.
27 seconds = 135.
So there's a difference of 4 points. The only ways that works are: 23 first, 25 second, 2 third or 23 first, 26 second, 1 fifth.

It's not, but a QB racking up a 1st Team and a couple of Second Teams is huge for a HOF to pad out a resume.

Drew Brees just went in first ballot and only has 1 First Team All Pro and 4 Second Team All Pros.

Hypothetically, Maye seals the deal and wins the SB this weekend, then all of a sudden you have a QB that is in year 2 and is 1 First Team all Pro and 3 Second Team All Pros away from being clearly in the HOF.

How much you wanna bet it’s the second one, with someone dumping on Maye just out of spite?
