Bunch of turnovers over the past two weeks. What needs to happen to cut down on these turnovers?

I think first we need to give Will Campbell more help because he just can’t do much against any pass rushers. He is a rookie and we probably need a TE next to him or a RB to help him.

Next, Maye needs to protect the ball better. Fumbles galore. He will need to have better pocket awareness especially when he feels that the rush is coming.

Protecting the ball is a must. Today we got bailed by the defense.

Don't play in a wintry mix. That should help.

Take the good with the bad.

We played a pretty good defense that doesn't allow you to run or throw short safe passes.

The only way to beat them is with long developing routes that take time. That's how the Patriots won today. Throwing the ball downfield. Maye is the only QB to throw 3 TDs against the Texans, and he did it without throwing an Interception during the normal course of play.

The fumbles are what happens when you hold the ball for 3+ seconds while you're looking for the big hit.

2 of those fumbles were not like the other 2 however. One was a busted play by Treveyon when Maye ran it and the other was a complete whiff by Campbell which occurred in 2 seconds.

I know there was thread here wondering if maye is already as good as brady. After today's game i was really surprised by the gameplan at times and also about maye's pocket awareness when he knew he diidnt have help on the left side .
Brady wouldve thrown quick all game and never let anderson ruin the game not just once but multiple times. maybe we dont have that quick throw WRs yet or maybe we lost a bit once stevenson went out early. But i was surprised they let the guy who can ruin the game ruin the game almost. It was almost unheard of with josh during BB/Brady era.
Maye really needs to be bit more aware in the pocket and not put the ball on the ground.Especially when you know the opponent.

The "not a Checkdown Charlie" stuff is a bit overblown, because he's fairly consistent with roughly 10 to 12 passes more than 10 yards beyond the LOS.

But I am wondering why Maye and/or McDaniels seem relatively allergic to the Edelman/Amendola role. Chism in particular seemed like he could've been useful in negating the pass rush, but he was just about the only pass catcher Maye didn't target.

Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter nuff said!

I thought some of the play calling was poor.

There was a number of plays, that didn't end well for us, that were just too long developing leaving Drake exposed in the pocket

Since when did we become a good screen team? And the delayed handoffs? I liked when mumford came in

Fix this guy and we will be ok.

I feel the play calling was subpar and maye did have chances for some quick intermediate throws. He just missed them.

Henderson was a liability in pass protection and screens today. So practically whenever he was on the game we were one player short . He had one 5 yard run in 4th quarter . That's when he had some value . Hope he improves.

Chism was supposed to have a big game and I donno if it's josh or Maye. He was the one who could have helped with quick slants and short 4-7 yards. Whenever Campbell did not have protection Chism should have been there .

It could already be a case where they have not practiced screens much .

The weather in first two quarters made us play really bad and we got lucky with a. Defensive breakdown and pop catch and run even after deflection.

Getting back hollins would do a lot for us.

Maye deep balls are our bread and butter . We likely will not face this kind of pass rush and probably will have rham for greater majority of time for pass blocking . That would help us.

Need a good fullback. hypothetically Kyle juszyk would have been a god send for the team against Texans. Again we can play only with what we have and I hope Brock lampe and larison next season are as advertised.

If broncos defense is not as vaunted as Texans , we are gonna murder them . Our defense has too many players and we will not be outgassed.

Stidham does have a great deep ball. So Davis might be missed if he does not clear protocol.

I’m very concerned. But they keep winning. It’s a roller coaster !!!

Chism might get open on some lucky chance, but he's in there because Hollins is out, no?

What I'm getting at is I don't think Chism is all that good and that's why it's difficult to plan on him playing that role.

I don't remember which play it was, if it was one of the sacks or just a snap that got totally blown up, but there was one play where Bradbury snapped the ball, took a step forward and fell flat on his face under no pressure and with no contact from a defender. He just fell forward. It was bizarre, and of course caused an overload on Wilson

It's just Maye having to go through a gauntlet of pass rushers to win it all as his first time in the post-season. Same with Campbell.

Is it a concern? Yes, but is it one that you have to alter your approach to fix? No. Stick with the plan. Contrary to people's belief, the playcalling has been exactly what you do against these teams. Your offense rarely looks good against these teams. It is what it is.

I'd like Diggs to teach Maye some hand strengthening exercises, though.

IMHO fans are a bit paranoid about the fact that Maye is taking hits. Quarterbacks take hits. It's part of the job. Brady took a beating frequently even when he won. It's one of the more amazing things about his 20+ year career. The defense is simply gonna get through sometimes.

I'm not too worried. Maye is a big boy and there are no major injury red flags right now. He's getting the ball forward and winning football games, that's his job, and taking hits when the defense gets through is part of that job.

I wonder if McD had a read that there were weaknesses in the Texanss' secondary that were worth focusing on. That tracks with the approach they took. That the front 7 are gonna get their hits, but if you keep working on that secondary, there were enough holes to beat them that way.

The fumbles while looking to make a completion can be justified. And some of those can be blamed on the pass protection. But the one scramble up the middle is inexcusable. All he was trying to do was gain yards. Two hands and holding on should be the only thing on his mind there.

Yeah, but plenty of those hits on Maye weren't because of the weather.

I'm even willing to accept that slippery conditions made it tough for the OL to get their footing but the truth is, we're shaky on the OL with two rookies (who aren't rookies anymore) with LG being a weak point that hinders LT as well

We also saw at least one time when Henderson didn't make his block (I mean, the guy is tiny so part of me doesn't fault him) - but that's where a big RB like Rhamonde - who is a great blocker and gets no love for that - comes into play and those blocks are often the difference between a catch and a sack/interception.

Now that being said the Pats faced two of the best Ds back to back and still came out with a win

I'm not looking past Denver's D by any stretch - but damn, Seattle looks tough.

Expect teams to continue to attack the left side until we show we can stop them. Maye seems amazingly adept at turning the rushes into running gains or taking the hit and making the throw, but that can't continue in the future.
