DRAFT Cole Strange-Welcome to the Pats

What a welcome ! :)

Im sure this thread is hilarious and illuminating but am short on time. Judging by the first and last page another instant classic.

Ban all opinions then guys, wrap it up, lock the draft thread, we aren't paid professionals so no thoughts or opinions should be discussed. Close the forum til September. And even then I don't want to see anyone criticizing NKeal Harry's hands because he knows how to play WR better than any of us do.

Dumb ass take
You didn't give your opinion or thoughts. You just told him to shut up.

Welcome to the Patriots, Cole Strange...

...should've been the message we give him Tonight, not Yesterday.

And that's the ENTIRE DAM POINT.
I'm hoping for a redemption pick. We've seen it before. Get a rated 2nd Rounder in the 3rd. Realistically, once it's over the round no longer matters. They can play or they can't. Hoping for the best.

Well on the plus side, the Pats still have three picks in the Sixth Round...and that's worked out pretty well for them in the past...one is #200, so maybe BB will trade up to 199 and throw some magic dust in the air.

I agree with you and your friend BCG. Don't allow people to bully you off a valid opinion derived from studying hundreds of prospects over the years. As far as I can tell you put a lot more hours into your scouting than any of the other forum posters.

The key to the gut reaction that this is a bad pick is the value is not there, it's as your friend put it, the opportunity cost. The Patriots had the opportunity to take the best remaining of premium positions and instead took a guard in the first, a position that is very fungible, and just how much difference will there be between the 2nd best guard of this class and the 4th or 6th best guard? Probably not a lot.

Meanwhile as the analyst and media reactions also point out, the Patriots could have taken a more premium position such as edge, corner, or even linebacker. Not only that despite what BB insisted in his press conference, to save face no doubt, many draft odds calculated that strange had a 93% chance of lasting until pick 54. If the Pats had gotten antsy on day 2 they could have easily moved up a few spots to ensure getting 'their guy' strange in round 2 while securing the premium asset in round 1.

The other thing we can't ignore is that the 'need for a guard' was a self-inflicted wound created by Belichick the GM. We had an all-pro guard locked up for the next 2 years for at least 2022/2023 and could have easily just held onto him and let him walk in free agency. Instead we flipped him for a 5th round pick, and then compounded the wound by fixing it with a 1st round selection of an interior lineman, passing over other more premium needs such as cornerback, edge, linebacker, etc.

Just look at who was taken immediately after the Strange pick - George Karliftis Edge, Daxton Hill DB, and Lewis Cine DB. Those 3 picks and all the players taken before the Patriots take their 2nd player on Day 2 will be compared to Strange as the cost of taking a guard in round 1. OOF.

The other problem is that 2021 draft aside, BB has pulled this crap before, and has lost the, oh we'll give him the benefit of a doubt. There have been too many 1st and 2nd round busts who were reaches that elicit a bad reaction from BB on draft day. It feels like oh, why was he the good GM in 2021, but the arrogant reacher every other draft? I suspect it might come down to the person stacking the draft board. In 2021, the Patriots employed, Dave Ziegler. He has since left to join McDaniels with the Raiders. Before 2021, it was Nick Caserio who was DOP. Was this the main difference in the 2021 draft and all the other BB drafts?

As for Day 2, the Patriots have plenty of picks to maneuver. And they might yet find a 'Barmore' level prospect who helps us forget that Strange was a bad reach. But it doesn't change the fact that round 1 was a wasted opportunity, and BB was properly roasted for overreaching by the media and the draft analysts.

Imagine posting Tom "BradE" Curran to try to back your point. Curran has continually whined about and **** on Belichick since Belichick and Brady fell out back in 2017 and Curran picked a side.

redemption pick.

Redemption pick for what exactly? LG being probably their biggest need and going with 1 of the 2 best G still on the board and getting 2 more picks in the top 121 out of it?

That's a pretty mild reaction for you! You actually secretly like the (non) kid but hate the pick at #29?

Because Aaron Stinnie is amazing...
He'll seem so with TB12 at quarterback.

Jones was under a lot of pressure last season. Stands to reason that in year # 2 he will be running for his life.
So trade your best OL Shaq Mason and replace him a desperation reach in the 1st round of the draft??

Graded by whom? You? Kiper? Mcshay?
Yes, all of the above, and practically everyone else, had McDuffie, Q Walker, Elam, JJII, Lloyd, and Wyatt all going in the 1st round. Literally the only surprise of the final 12 picks was Cole Strange... a projected 3rd rounder.

I just heard on the radio that the Bucs and Titans had first round grades on Strange. The Bucs are the first selection today.
I was told by my friend and boss from e2g sports that a titan scout he knows through Floyd Reese told him that the titans were trying to package #35 and other picks to trade back into round 1 to take Cole Strange.

Everyone hated the Duggar thing. For good reason. The guy is a creep.

Kyle Dugger on the other hand is super athletic and we were all intrigued

3 teams that just drafted WR's in the top 15 will STILL be bottom of the barrel this year......and next year.......teams build from behind center and in the trenches......how many young QB's have had careers destroyed because of poor protection and no running game.......this team will again have elite running talent.......and pass protection should continue to improve

there's a few rounds left......wait until at least sunday to jump, ok?
That's what I was thinking, it's hard to throw the ball from your back

People that use the Jets or Lions as an example make me cringe. You really want to use perennial losers as an example of drafting

Yeah I don’t care if he was drafted 1st overall… If he plays line a 1st rounder, is a solid starter for many years and helps protect the franchise…then it was worth it. Why do you care if we have another great draft and helps us win? “But but he was not drafted where I wanted him drafted!”. Yeah not my problem…if he helps us win…that’s all I care about.

The pick sucks. They could have taken him much later than the friggin 1st round. You can put me on record as saying Cole Strange will not be Logan Mankins. You can also put on record as saying Belichick is getting thoroughly outdone by many other GM's around the league including now Joe Douglas of the NYJ. Jermaine Johnson is going to have a bigger impact than Strange so I'll start there because we could have had JJII falling into our lap too. I'll also keep a close eye on all of the DB's taken after Belichick traded #21... McDuffie, Elam and Hill all landing in the AFC. We could all be raving about any one of those players today but instead we're trying to figure out who's the creampuff that no one has ever heard of before.
Can we pin this post somewhere to come back to when the Jets are again under .500 for the season?
