If he couldn’t be motivated in a SB it’s hard to imagine having to retire a multi millionaire would change that.

Most players are bankrupt within 2 years of leaving the league, IIRC. Cam seemingly likes to spend frivolously (outfits, anyone?), and he likely won't have another chance to earn a massive payday if he doesn't earn one this year. Agents cost money. I'd wager he owns at least one vehicle that is more aptly described as a "performance toy," with a price tag north of 100k. Sports stars rarely make wise fiscal decisions. Hell, folks around here have lauded Gronk being wise with his cash while pointing out exactly what I'm describing.

Didn't Haynesworth get a 100mil contract from the 'Skins at one point? Pretty sure he filed bankruptcy. Seems impossible but it happens all the time.

Cromartie had to get a payday advance from Woody to cover child support, WHILE playing. Granted, he has about 50 kids, but the point stands.

I don't pretend to know Cam's finances. I do know he doesn't appear to show any worry over them, and thats usually the first sign of someone who will spend beyond his means once the checks stop. Hell, I bet he's spent north of 5 figures just for the headware choice on some of those outfits (assuming there isn't some deal cut with the designer, which there's a good chance is the case).

Cam is getting an opportunity to jumpstart his career. If it goes well, it could be amazing for him. If he struggles and butts heads with McDumbass and BB? He'll just be another entry in the long list vets who came to Foxborough to be euthanized by the Hoodie.

Did any of those guys act like they didn’t care in a SB then suddenly become great effort team players after realizing they might blow their money.

Look the whole Sb effort thing is probably an exaggeration but the point is players typically aren’t motivated by “last chances” and suddenly change. They are who they are despite people wanting to romanticize this made up ability to suddenly care, try harder and do better.

Who knew that the little kid in Cam's Play 60 commercial was Jarrett!

What exactly makes him a d-bag ? His eccentric clothing style ?
For a lot of people, a huge ego = dbag

Most tend to be attracted to humility over self-centeredness. I’m hoping if Cam is successful, he never tries to make it about him. Brady did a GREAT job in that regard.

It’ll be interesting to see if Belichick allows Cam to wear his crazy outfits in post game. Hey, maybe it’s something we’ll get used to if we start winning, who knows

I doubt there will be a football season this year, so that gives Cam time to learn the system for 2021

Looking like you actually enjoy playing football too much is a big negative for some people as well.

And I think Belichick doesn't even slightly care what clothes a guy wears.

All QBs have huge egos just some are better at hiding it. If Cam Newton is healthy there is no reason why the Pats can't compete for the Super Bowl. IF he's healthy. He was Lamar before Lamar only bigger. Yes he made a chicken **** play in the super bowl but let the man prove himself before people write him off. I've got a good feeling about this.

And if not then Stidham starts week 6 and doesn't have to directly follow the GOAT.

Cam Newton made the superbowl with Kelvin Benjamins 600 pound life ass playing wideout. He can make it work with Edleman and a few other pieces.

Preliminary breakdown on Cam's fit with the Patriots.

This is a pretty good watch and apart from whatever Lazar has already come up or will release in the next few days the best summary of why I feel excited about the Pats/Newton combo.

Obviously you have to preface everything with "if healthy" but at least there is only little risk involved in taking a bet on that.

If he can reproduce what he showed in 2018 he will be an upgrade over last year's Brady offense and enable McDaniels/Fisch to break free from the shackles imposed by Brady's immobility. Especially in the redzone and short yardage situations this will be huge. It might even translate into more fourth down attempts.

The question will be if those areas where Newton will open more possibilities over Brady will be enough to overcome everything we lost with Tom moving on. And among those the biggest question that stands out is whether Cam can make it through whatever this season ends up being without getting dinged up.

It's a test for Josh McDaniels, for sure.

It's not a given considering Cam's health issues, but I am interested to see more RPOs incorporated into the offense. The Patriots have typically been ahead of the curve when it comes to innovation, but RPO (which is the trendy stuff right now) was never an option with Brady leading the offense. Now that we actually have a dual-threat QB, I want to see just how creative Josh McDaniels can get with the playbook.

I am not super confident in Josh without Brady. He has never had any real sustained success without the greatest QB to ever play.

Honestly this is as good a replacement QB you could wish for from a schematic point of view. As you re saying his athletic ability will unlock a lot of things that were impossible to do with Brady which should be a pretty liberating feeling for BB and McDaniels.

If things work out we will be more unpredictable than ever and a horror to game plan against on offense because you can run almost all kinds of offenses with Newton.

We sacrificed some depth for more breadth in terms of scheme. It will be fascinating to see how much that added flexibility can be leveraged when you only have little time in the week between games.

Apparently some people care about his clothing style more than winning games. Cam potentially saves us from being a laughingstock in 2020.

We’re going to win a Super Bowl with Cam Newton on a minimum deal and when he wants big money, we’ll cut him. For Bill’s final double middle finger good bye to the NFL we’re going to win another one the very next year with Mitch Trubisky on a minimum deal and BB is going to show once and for all that this isn’t a quarterback league, it’s a Bill Belichick league.

I still think laughing stock is way too strong and we'd be at worst a slightly below average offense and at best an above average offense. But Cam has the credentials and abilities to put us into good-to-great offense territory.

If healthy.

Cam has five losing seasons out of nine and last year he was 0-2 before going on IR so that makes 3 winning seasons out of 9. He is hardly synonymous with winning.
