Meyers & Harry

Well I guess we will see Harry play more rather than less. Cautiously optimistic?

Harry wasn't drafted to attempt to come in after half a season and become one of our top receivers. We signed sang for a reason. If Harry were ready to be the #2 or #3, there would no need to sign Sanu; we have been fine with Edelman, Dorsett, Harry and Meyers.

In any case, we'll see. I disagree with regard to Gunner. Gunner is a special teamer is will be active in any case.

So, I guess you will be on the side of having Meyers inactive. Or perhaps, you will sit Dorsett so that Harry can get reps.

It is my personal view that a wide receiver who has no played an NFL game will NOT be expected to come in and have dramatically increased reps. I just don'y see why we would want to bench Edelman, Dorsett or Sanu.

You keep repeating this and yet can't give a sensible explanation why, when people point out that Harry was drafted in the first round for a reason.

He will be on the fast track and will get designed plays by Josh. I think it is far more likely his snap count will rise slowly and then more dramatically over the next 4-5 games.

He might be the most talented player they have on offense and it would be ridiculous not to use him.

If the numbers for active spots will get tight, Gunner will end up being the sacrifice.

Don't trust rookies in the playoffs.

We will probably have more wrs active each week than previous years cuz we don’t have any tes (talent and injuries)

We’ve been doing it almost this whole year no?

We tried to sign Sanu now 3-4 times. He has nothing to do with Harry. He is the ideal inside receiver that will make Tom's (and Julian's) life easier.

As a first round pick Harry was drafted with a specific role in mind and you will see that plan unfold.

Whether it works or not is up to the player. But it has been forever since we had such a talented rookie on hand.

Sitting Gunner for him is a no brainer. There are many more options in the punt return game and Gunner is not quite there yet to contribute as a receiver.

Harry on the other hand should contribute substantially.

I expect McDaniels and Brady to get Harry involved quickly, and see how it goes. He's had time to learn the offense, so I don't see that as the big issue. He'll catch some balls from his first game on, then his time will depend on week to week matchups. It's too bad he missed the easy part of the schedule, real bullets will be flying from the moment he returns which could limit his time.

I really don’t understand your thinking.
Who cares what someone was “drafted for”? Players are drafted to help a team win not to fit into a predetermined estimate of their future.
Of course he will be “relied upon” if he is on the 53.
If he is good enough to play he will play.
Transactions aren’t made based upon whether another guy projects to be ready. They are made based upon the potential to improve the team.
The decisions about who will be playing how much in December aren’t being decided today.
Harry is out on the practice field competing for a role. “What they drafted him for” and whether it’s likely or unlikely a player coming back from IR can contribute are irrelevant.
Maybe I misunderstand and you are just saying AS RELATES TO YOUR GUESS you can’t rely on him, but Belichick certainly is.

No, he's taking about Matt Light and Richard Seymour.

and Ty Warren, Dan Koppen, Eugene Wilson, Nate Solder, Bryan Stork, Joe Thuney, and Sony Michel

Everyone is so high on Harry. Guy is a rookie and has been injured from the word go. My expectations are 0 at this point, let alone for playoffs. Let's wait and see on this guy.

I can't believe how fast people have jumped off the Harry bandwagon.

This is the guy who BB thought was worthy of his first pick in the draft, well ahead of some guys who have done very well so far like McLaren, Hardman, and others. He is also the same guy who EVERYONE was so impressed with (including myself) all through the TC process until he was hurt.

So what's changed. NOTHING When he comes back next week he's STILL be the first round talented WR he was coming into TC. Expectations SHOULD be high. I know mine will. The only factors that should diminish any expections are the institutional ones inflicted by the complexity of the offense and the perfectionist QB.

Well it's not like he's been in prison the last 8 weeks. He's been to all the meetings, and I don't doubt that for the last 2 or 3 weeks he's been running at full strength on the side getting ready. And if they hold him out until after the bye, he'll have had a month of practice to get up to speed.

BELIEVE me, there have been a LOT of years when Brady has had worse WR options than Edelman, Sanu, Dorsett, Harry and Myers.

Comments:

a.) I think the excitement over Harry wore off because of two factors:

- He got hurt...so...out of sight = out of mind.

- The emergence of Jakobi Meyers in TC (remember I was calling for him to be our #2 WR).

b.) I still think we can make it work with all WR's. Each one brings a different type of skill set.

There were a few changes, the biggest being he hasn't played a game in almost a year? And truth be told people were not that high on him during TC if anything Meyers was the one who was grabbing all the headlines thru TC and PS.

You seem to defined the Harry bandwagon differently than I do.

I believe that harry will be a star for the future patriots. I never thought of him as more than #3 or #4 in his rookie year, approximately equal to Dorsett, and behind Edelman and Gordon. Now that he was injured and missed a half season of action, I think that it will be difficult for him to be a major contributor in 2019. I guess that is made less possible because Meyers has done well.

I do NOT believe that Josh will change the offense to try to develop Harry. Given our other 4 WR's, I don't think that Harry will have many chances, as long as everyone else is healthy. He could get reps if Meyers is made inactive. Even then, he will be the 7th target in any game after the 4 WR's, White and Watson. He would 8th if Burkhead were healthy.

BOTTOM LINE
I am ON the Harry bandwagon. I just don't see him as a superhero who will push others aside and gets lots and lots of reps this year. Of course, we hope for a few key plays in the playoffs and Super Bowl.

Yeah I have to agree. Rookie wide receivers across the league historically do not produce that well. I'm not sure why people are expecting Harry to step in and immediately be a savior of impact player or something, especially considering that he's missed all this time. I expect him to have like 2 receptions a game.

I hope I'm wrong but I'm definitely not holding my breath here. I don't feel comfortable letting Gordon go "because reinforcements like Harry are coming back". Harry is basically a JAG this season to me unless he shows otherwise.
