Lots Of Decisions To Make This Week

Depending on the severity of injury I could see canon or Calhoun who was also hurt being on ir.

Meyers and Gunner is gone if we try to get them on the PS.

I actually see us trading for a pick more so than releasing anyone.
Calhoun played after he was dinged up.

OL
Who will we add?
Will we add two? (a center and a tackle)
Hopefully, we can cut Ferentz.
How long will Cannon be out? Does he need to go on IR until after the bye?

WR
We will add Brown.
Who will we cut or trade? How many? Meyers? Thomas? (I would cut Meyers)

TE
Who will be our TE's for Game Two?

CAP
What if any extensions or restructures will happen?
This thread should have been moved to the practice squad the minute you wrote you would cut Meyers.

Calhoun came back in pretty soon after being hurt

Some posters don't seem to get this, but the IR is not a place to stash your players. When a player is injured and going to be out for a number of games they go there. Lately a player breaks a fingernail and posters are calling for him to go to the IR so we don't have to cut other players. The Patriots don't seem to work like that.

AB is 31.
Andelman is long in the tooth.
Gordon is no spring chicken.

No to letting Meyer go unless he is a fraud.

No need for DT. Or we carry 45 Wrs either way a good problem to have

Thomas is in his Grady Wilson NFL years. How much longer does he really have left?

Gunner and Meyers showed enough in the first game to keep around.

Remember when we thought we needed Harry to have a very good year? This team is sooooooo stacked. Not only are the starters great, but the back-ups are guys that could start for a lot of teams. And outside of a handful, (Brady, Bennett, Ghost, Chung, McCourtys), it's pretty damn young. Look at how many contributors have less than 5 years experience. The number with 2 or less, especially if you count IR, is astounding.

I would think DT would be the odd man out but they thought enough of him to bring him back for more money after cutting him. I guess plans may have changed after acquiring AB.

This week (and the next few) are going to be interesting. Such an embarrassment of riches. Only thing I’d say : it’s risky to count on Gordon & Brown in terms of their staying power. But on the field....... WOW.

Whether the Patriots operate like that or not, a lot of teams do. Stashing young players on injured reserve with fake (or greatly exaggerated) injuries is a strategy that many teams in the league use. It's basically a way to prevent them from going through waivers and "redshirting" them for a year.

It's bending the rules a little bit but it's a common strategy. They should exploit loopholes to their advantage. It's no different than, say, giving make-believe two-year deals to spread out a cap hit.

Rookie wide receivers often have very poor ROI. I wouldn't mind them doing this with someone like Meyers or Harry (Harry is, of course, already on IR-DTR).

Gotta keep 6 WR + Gunner.

If he pulled a Cyrus or Harper then I'd feel different but he did great

Meyers is too good of a young talent to cut. Gunner is too good on special teams to cut. The obvious move is DT to IR.
I agree. I'm backing off Wise as a candidate but DT and Obi were not contributors yesterday and were not missed and are the logical candidates in my mind. DT might be an injury settlement release so he can play elsewhere. Obi is injured so he could be IRed if BB wants him.

Eddie Andelman is too important to the offense.(sic)

I think you're probably right, but I'm thinking about how they could justify keeping him. Could they use him similar to Aaron Hernandez? He's a superior player to Kendricks and LaCosse. I'd hate to cut him for one of these two when he might be able to handle some of their duties.

I don’t think he has any value at all given his a candidate for getting cut. I imagine teams will just stay patient with him on that front.
Unless there are a few teams interested, and one team wants to make sure they get him, instead of competing for him - so they give up a 6th rounder.

The team needs youth at WR moving forward. DT to IR or his team of choice for a low draft pick (Seattle?).

It is a unique roster predicament. I can’t see them cutting Meyers though.

God bless his parents for naming him Jakobi.

That sure was a nice national TV showcasing of Burkhead last night...............
I think the numbers show that we need him at least as much as the 5th/6th WR. The fact that he can run and can catch is hugely important to this team. Note Michel's 0.9 YPC and 0 catches. It's amazing how the Pats can turn average players such as Burkhead and Dorsett into stars. Seems like TB12 is now totally comfortable with both, something we could not say last year.

Given the reputation LaCosse has for not being a blocker, I don't see much loss in keeping a big WR over him.
