Patriots Trade for Michael Bennett

I do find all the gushing over this move kinda funny. This guy is a loser.

I root for the laundry in the end, but I definitely can't root for this lying POS.

He may be a POS but this is a contest of many men trying to violently, physically beat down many other men. Based on that underlying premise a no POS policy is built on a house of cards, IMHO.
The Patriot Way isn't a no POS policy, it's a no slacker, no chemistry upsetting, ply your craft obsessively hard until you do what's asked of you as well as you can policy.

He was 3rd on the team in tackles in 2003 and a full time starter. That was arguably his best year in New England

Not sure what you’re talking about. Phifer racked up 99 tackles in 2003 (66 solo) which is more than Van Noy’s 92/55 solo this year

Would love to hear how a full time starter with 99 tackles is a role player and Van Noy is a full timer
I guess I forgot how big an impact he had. I just thought all the other backers we had played a bigger role.

Pete Prisco confirming this trade is a done deal.
Hope it's not the 3rd that he is speculating though, a 4th or 5th seems more appropriate since this is an older player and this really helps the Eagles with their cap situation.

I'm thinking Flowers also may be a goner. Clayborn was kinda disappointing last season. He might get cut for cap reasons and replaced by Bennett who has been the better player the last 2 seasons.

This move makes the Pats a better team on the DL. Just dunno what we do about Flowers though but we have a replacement in case we can't afford him in free agency.

speculating about what?

It already got confirmed that NE gives up a 5th and receives a 7th.

Simon has made a few good plays but he hasn’t proven to be as good as Bennett or even close to it.
For the salary cap space each would occupy, give me Simon - and it isn't even close.

According to the 2:00 Drill at 1:30 this afternoon on Sirius NFL radio, NE throws away its 5th AND 7th-rounders.

The same folks who saw Bennett for the low character person that he was while he was on other teams now have no problem with him being part of the Patriot Way.

Oh how I miss the days when character mattered.
I'm with you man! I just found out Michael Bennett is a tractionist! What an awful human being!

On the field the guy is a stud and has been incredibly productive. He was the best DE on the Eagles last year. 7 million/year for that kind of production is a steal.

Now I do not know if he will get along with Schiano and he has a bad temper and he gets called for offsides alot.

But overall, a 5th for that kind of production at a critical defensive position...I understand why BB did it.

I still do NOT understand why he hired Schiano as DC. I think Schiano will be a problem.

Has BB ever paid max $$$$ for a premium edge rusher?
Never!
Has BB ever jettisoned a premium edge rusher at contract time?
Hell yeah!
Has BB ever gone to the veteran discount window to get an impact edge rusher on short $$$$?
Standard Operating Procedure

Does BB love him some 3rd round comp picks?
Will Michael "I want a raise" Bennett be ticked off if NE signs Flowers to double his current salary level?
Is this draft stacked with DE/DT talent to fill holes and develop the next Flowers?
Yes, Yes,Yes

BB was paying big money for McGinest. He also paid big money for Seymour on Seymour's first extention.

Seymour was "jettisoned" when he was 29 years old and wanted a new contract. The Pats had already spent a ton of money on him. Most people would say the Pats regretted the move becauser the line was horrid for a few years after that.

It would be nice but it's probably best described as a prayer. Flowers is gonna be offered some pretty choice $$$ from a few other teams. A basement dweller may even throw in the kitchen sink and the sky. Unless Flowers really wants to stay here and will make it, I don't know, say a 10% trim for the PatsFan Drive for 7 and 8 fund, chances are most likely we should start practicing our "Flowers was overrated" posting (along with a "always thought Bennett was the best in the business" post :))

In fairness, he will be overrated if you’re measuring by how much he gets paid.

He was a bust, mostly. If they gave credits for running way past the QB and out of the play, he'd be all pro.
Clayborn led the team in pressures/hits up until he got benched.. That's when Flowers passed him.

Clayborn is what he is. A mid-range signing ala Chris Long. He wasn't meant to be a starter here. He was meant to be a rotational guy who could help bridge the gap while Wise and Rivers developed.. Wise definitely has. Rivers is still a question mark.

Cut Clayborn and Ebner saves 7m = Bennett
Cap is pretty much the same
Why cut Ebner? Because you can have 3 great STer for less than his cap hit (king/humber/McClellan)

Bring Flowers back

Flowers Tillery Guy Bennett ( Wise/ Anthony Nelson)

Brandon King isn't a Free Agent.
Humber and McClellan will be 32 and 33 respectively by the time the league year starts. They also don't play the same position as Ebner on special teams.

Cutting Ebner only saves you 1.4M. That's not enough to re-sign Humber and McClellan who made 915K and 790K respectively last year. Humber is a 10 year vet. McClellan is a 7 year vet. Humber's minimum would be 1.03M and McClellan's would be $930K.

Sorry, but imho, your suggestion is the equivalent of cutting off your nose to spite your face.
