Can someone tell me what the Patriots are doing? Now Cooks is gone?

Pats got good value for Cooks. and the other good news is they must be confident that Edelman/Mitchell must be healthy and Gronk wont be retiring. Then you also add Dorsett, patterson, jordan matthews, hogan and there is some depth there where he can be expendable

While cooks may have better outright talent than those two. There is no denying that Edelman/Mitchell are MUCH more suited for this offense than Cooks. And Dorsett can play the deep threat role when needed

I think we would've seen improvement this year from Cooks- one more year with TB but also getting to work out with JE11, which I think would help with his toughness/physicality, or lack thereof.
Unlike some, I don't think that stupid attempted leap was done in fear, I think it was just an illadvised stab at trying to make a spectacular play.
But he has had issues getting jammed at the Los and fighting off dbs on his routes- both things JE11 excels at. Would the Pats wr group/offense be better with him? Yes. But it's still going to be the best in the NFL. It's probably the deepest group on the team and loaded with talent.
But the trade was absolutely brilliant. I like Cooks( I should say I like the " potential" that Cooks might show this year- I thought he was only good, not great, last year), but to get the #23 for him? Flatout steal that will help this team.

The internet existed back then?? Or did you guys just mail each other every few days, like pen pals or something?

Using that brand new 56k modem, dialed up to AOL, navigated over to the Patriots message board, joined in many many discussions such as 'Parcells was too hard on the players. With Pete Carroll hired, he won't be so hard on them and we'll be right back to the Super Bowl'.
(true story :))

Depends on how you look at it. Were they productive? Talented? You need 3 years to see if a player is for real.

Lets look at the last 4 years

Rivers -TBD
Garcia -TBD
Wise- HIT- S
McDermott - MISS

Jones -MISS
Thuney- HIT-S
Brissett- HIT-S
Valentine- HIT
Mitchell- HIT
Hill- HIT (for Philly)
Roberts- HIT
Karras- HIT
Lucien- TBD

Brown- HIT-S
Grissom- MISS
Richards- MISS (ST)
Trey Flowers- HIT-S
Jackson- MISS
Mason- HIT-S
Cardona- HIT (ST)
Wells- MISS
Derby- HIT
Roberts- HIT (I think BB screwed up. They should have kept him)
****son- MISS

Easley- MISS
Jimmy -HIT-S
Stork- HIT and a MISS (Starter but injuries got to him)-S
White- HIT-S
Fleming- HIT (for a 4th rounder not bad)
Halapio-MISS
Thomas- MISS
Moore- MISS
Gallon- MISS

33 picks. 17 Hits. 9 starters and two key STers.

Even the most critical draftnik would say that is a damn good job of picking talent and having it translate into on-the-field production.

Hey, that’s just like...your opinion, man

You left out Britt.

Cooks trade was great ROI.

Matthews pick up is pretty much one for one replacement for Cooks as well.

A lot of things need to go right for the Pats to have the best WR group in football. It's a collection of guys with injury issues or lack of production issues. Hogan is probably the best bet to be a big contributor next year and he's a complementary piece. People seem to be assuming Edelman will be as good as pre-injury but I doubt that's the case

Let's see...we just lost a major good WR. We lost critical players in our offensive line. We lost defensive players.

Seriously....wtf is this team doing? They're doing nothing all off season besides losing key players, and failing to obtain any above average players. They let Butler go and now they have another hole in the defense. They don't bother to go after Sherman. They don't bother to go after Jordy Nelson. They're not bothering to go after anyone.

Well I guess BB is content for another 2009 season. Remember that season?

You're an idiot if you think they haven't filled in key players That departed. RB Hill, CB McCourty. WR Matthews and Patterson as one of the best kick and punt returner. DT Clayborn from the falcons and another pass rusher from Cleveland who's apparently decent. Plus they get Derek Rivers back who was injured.

You were on a pretty fair roll until you got to 'another pass rusher from Cleveland' lol. Shelton is a NT and while his presence should free up other players to rush the passer no one should confuse him with a legit pass rusher in his own right.

I wasn't saying Pats have best wr group in nfl, I was saying they should still have the best OFFENSE in the league.
I should have made that clearer.

i think Pre-draft the patriots are still the favorite in the AFC.

the NFC has a couple of dream teams though so it will be interesting to see how that conference shakes out. the Rams and the Eagles could both be scary good, or they could flame out under pressure.
