Zolak: Brady will get a two-year extension

I love Brady and everything but if we get rid of JG we're gonna suck after Brady retires
I get your stance man, but the truth is we are going to have losing seasons eventually and there is no fighting it. I would rather have 5 more years of excellence than venture into the unknown. I'm sorry, but I want superbowls and Brady at center always gives us a chance. We might never win another superbowl after Brady retires this century so why not just try to collect another 1-3 rings and see what happens then?

If true, I got no problem...

...with riding that horse. ;)

Nicely put.

Nobody has done what 12 has. There's just something to be said about a guy whos accomplished what he has. Been there, done that. Taken the hits, seen everything there is to see etc

Besides I just don't see any serious decline in Brady at all. Physically or mentally. The guy is amazing.

Anyway I want to see 6 & him take Mannings TD

Here's an article about Brady and Cooks. What we can expect and how their gunna hook up.

Basically this offense will be unstoppable if we stay healthy. No humble. Absolutely dominant.

I still can't believe we got Cooks. I never thought he was Edlemans replacement. He's another Incredible weapon that hasn't even begin to see his full potential.

I don't think he is Edelman's replacement, but I would expect them to move him around quite a bit, which will certainly include a lot of inside slot looks.

As to whether or not he stays here after his 2 years are up, that's anyone's guess right now.

People should just stop thinking more than a season ahead in terms of contracts and whatnot. Most of nowadays contracts -- even the 5 year extensions -- are essentially structured as 2 year contracts. There is enough time to discuss, worry and overreact about Cooks once he has a full season in the system under the belt.

Zolak has also said that Brady might retire if he wins another ring, that Brady will probably only actually play another 2-3 years, etc...

So why, if they had any inkling of this, would the Patriots be giving him an extension this summer?

IIRC, his last restructure was done in the face of the suspension and the primary emphasis of that was to move $ out of 'losable' salary (for 2016) and into 'safe' bonuses.

I can imagine that meant that the out years were therefore not structured ideally for long term salary cap mgmt either (to be prepared for TB to stay or go). So this may be a means of adding 1 year and reforming the salary-bonus distribution. . . . Or even moving his cap hit into fake (never gonna happen) years so that they can afford to franchise his successor*.

* I just had to throw that bone in for any JAG worshippers. :)

Hmmmm, I also wonder if an extension ties his contract length to a particular coach's retirement age?

But seeing as no one can figure out what that age is any better than TB's player-retirement age, we'll have to wait patiently and see . . .

I sure he will. I was speaking more to targets and where each does their damage. Plenty of room for everyone.

Gisele muttered in her accent, "My husband needs an extension" and the Patriots front office misunderstood.

Be VERY careful what you wish for.

I'm not wishing for it I just think the team can find another guy like him should they choose to make that decision. He hasn't shown enough to date to make me think differently...

The mere fact that the Patriots did not move him in what was widely seen as one of the worst years ever to need a starting QB may not definitively answer the question, but it suggests that the Patriots (A) think very highly of him, (B) are dissatisfied with Brisket's progress, or (C) both.

Or it means they like him and saw value in keeping him as this years backup as well as understanding with a 40 year old QB a severe injury could be career threatening so why not keep him around as long as you can and get what you get when you trade him.

Put it this way. The gap between Brady and JAG is substantially greater than the gap between JAG and the QB to be named later.

Excuse me, sir, but he is known as "the Clydesdale."

LOL... Actually, he's the GOAT...

...but the accompanying gifs for riding a goat were a tad less flattering. o_O

That said, the monkey is riding the hell outta that thing. LMAO

So, it is Garoppolo or the Pats will never get another QB? And who said that the Pats won't suck with Garoppolo as their starting QB? He hasn't proven he can be a good to great fulltime starter yet.

For as long as Brady plays, he's probably going to be the best option at quarterback.

If he ever became something other than the best option at quarterback he'd probably retire before he had to be cut. I don't think Brady will drag his career out if he starts to really slow down. Why would he?
