Denver's offense is really good, but the greatest of all time?
Who did the 2007 Patriots play when they went undefeated up until the Superbowl? What defenses did we shatter offensive records against?

Well, off the top of my head, there was the Jets, the Steelers, the Ravens, the Giants, the Colts. All wins for the Patriots.

Elite defenses being destroyed in record setting fashion.

Now compare this to the 2013 Broncos, who have been stat-padding against NOBODIES while LOSING to the good teams (the play off teams).

So you have a good offense. When people start calling it the best of all time, because you were throwing six touchdown passes against teams that have no idea how to play defense, who won't sniff a play off game for years, well....


You can see why Patriot fans aren't impressed.

Peyton, with all his offensive weapons, threw for about 150 yards, with 1 INT or 2?

It's just hard for me to be afraid.

I'm not saying anything is a foregone conclusion.

I'm just saying I'm honestly not worried.

Maybe your team will give me reason to after the game starts, but right now I feel pretty good. Gronk or no Gronk.

I don't like playing against Denver at all, wish the chargers beat them today. Looking from their point of view, we are probably a good matchup for them. They have a weak pass defense and we have no passing attack. Their strength is Manning and we haven't generated consistent pressure without blitzing. I don't know, I am definitely concerned about the game.

So on espn boston patriots blog, there is a link to a video with the following description:

I'm not sure what kind of adversity they are referring to?

Don't pay attention to it, that's a modern day cliche. It is not performance that matters any more, just how much "adversity" you "overcame". Everybody is in a mad scramble to demonstrate just how rough they had it. Sick of hearing about so called adversities, I can't stand it anymore.

I love the Pats approach. There is no mention of adversities as if they are the thing to be proud of. Be proud of your performance, not of supposed adversities.

Sure, statistically the greatest of all time, but I would agree with you that it's not the scariest offense of all time. No argument there at all, and I'd probably put us at about 5 (yes, BEHIND the Pats of '07, greatest show on turf, etc.)

What makes us dangerous though is that our offense really doesn't have a weak point to try to focus on. If you only focus on stopping our running game, we'll just pass. If you focus on eliminating our top two wideouts, we'll throw to Decker or Julius Thomas. We've ran the ball very effectively this season, and Montee Ball has looked particularly strong towards the end of the season, giving us a true dual-back threat. The O-Line has it's moments where it's played VERY well (Peyton was barely touched tonight) and then it has it's moments where it looks beatable.

My point is, a successful plan of attack against us could stop us on a number of drives, but it gets hard to cover everyone all the time, and while I could certainly see you holding us under our seasonal averages (I would expect that, in fact), there's definitely cause for some fear of our offense. Yes, the point totals are exaggerated. Yes, we played a lot of bad defenses. But...we have 3 great WRs, a competent enough 4th WR who you can't just leave alone, an above-average receiving tight end, a respectable running game, and I like that Manning guy as our QB.

But really, I'm just trying to stress you out because I'll be absolutely devastated if we lose and I want you all to be worrying about this game too.

I'll put a prediction out there...Denver 27, New England 24. I think both teams try to establish the pass first, then move back towards the run as the game goes on, and the time of possession per drive drags out long enough that neither team gets TOO many possessions, making them all count. Denver kicks a FG with a minute left, Brady gets to the 50 with 20 seconds left...everyone's pissing themselves, but the game ends on a sack.

Off topic, I'm probably going to miss the first half of the game because of church lol. It starts at 1 pm mountain time, service is not done usually until 1:30 or 2.

On topic, I feel really confident that the patriots can win this game, have some faith people!! You just have to believe.

I have been believing. I think they can win, but it is the playoffs and anything can happen.

Probably the latter.

Edelman vs. old man Champ will be a key matchup in the game. Julian needs to win those battles often.

He looked like himself. Slow and ineffective on any route more than 5 yards from the LOS where his defender doesn't get picked off

For the record, normal atmospheric pressure at Denver's altitude is only about 80% of what it is at sea level.

Notes, observations, thoughts & takes:

• San Diego was dealing with an offensive line change due to injury, and that caused them a lot of issues, especially early on.
• San Diego was dealing with Matthew's injured ankle, which made him a non-factor.
• Moreno has really turned his game around and become what McDaniels hoped he be when he drafted him.
• Talib on D. Thomas, Dennard on Decker, Arrington/Collins on Welker, Gregory on J. Thomas... If I'm Denver, I look at J. Thomas early.
• This is another game, like the Colts game, where not having Spikes should not be a huge issue. Yes, you want him in there to shut down Moreno, but you don't want Manning to be able to light him up in the passing game. If Collins can help on Welker as needed, and can be competitive against J. Thomas when given that assignment, that should more than make up for the weakness against the run.
• The safeties need to play a lot better than they did against the Colts.
• Having Dobson would be a big help in this game. Even one legitimate outside receiver would change the way Denver has to defend the passing game. right now, if I were the Broncos D.C., I'd be taking pages out of the Ravens/Jets playoff wins against the smurf attack, starting with pulling the safeties up.
• More than just being turnover free, the RBs need something else: They need Vereen to be drop free. The easy drops he's making are killing drives.
• Cannon seems to have settled in nicely when it comes to the running game, although he still seems limited getting to the second level. On the other hand...
• ... Cannon is still a problem in the passing game. Not facing Von Miller will be helpful, but Phillips will probably try working him over a bit.
• Bailey and Jammer are both older, and both have lost quickness. If they're covering the smurfs, my guess is that Brady will look to exploit them early, rather than looking DRC's way.
• Bunch formation could be a big thing for both teams in this one.
• Fans will be screaming "Pick play!" a lot come this weekend.
• Siliga has a chance to make a statement this weekend.
• Don't be surprised if Chandler Jones has a quiet game.
• Ihenacho is the Broncos Ihedigbo. Look for him to get shaken up at least once during the game.
• Patriots need to get the punting situation under control, because Holliday can hurt them if they don't.

Seems like that's enough to start the week.

I recommend investing in a DVR if possible. I attend church services on Sunday as well and thankfully never miss a Sunday game thanks to my DVR.
