Lindsey Graham comments for Specter [mergedx2]

"People are asking us about gas prices, the economy and war. Nobody is asking us about football."

That isn't exactly word-for-word, but something to that effect.

Actually he's the senator from South Carolina, who technically has no team. Republican Mel Martinez and Democrat Bill Nelson, respectfully, represent Florida in the Senate.

Senators are coming out of the woodwork to tell Specter to drop it already. You aren't going to get a Republican to publically slam another Repulican (same with Democrats), but that is basically what Senators Graham and Kyle are doing in a way not to embarrass Specter.

Specter must know he has no support for this despite what he is saying publically. He is just grandstanding because that is all he has.

As the general election comes closer, I imagine that privately they will tell him to STFU and stop making the Republican party look like it is more concerned with trifles like football signals instead of an economy in crisis.

They certainly will do so but Spector is so far gone into football moonbat land it may not shut him up. Those of us who knew that Spector would get nowhere with this in the senate were correct. The weak sisters' panic was unnecessary.

Oops, brain freeze mixed him up with Bob Graham, former Gov and Senator from Florida who was a Democrat. When a fellow Republican starts calling you out (violating Ronald Reagan's 11th commandment of never speaking ill of fellow Republicans) it's worse.

Actually, the Panthers although are located in NC have a very large fanbase in SC. Charlotte (where the Panthers play) is very close to the SC border. I think it is only litterally 20 miles away from the border. So technically, the Panthers are the team of SC.

His comments from a phone interveiw:

"He is probably one of the most respected members of the body. But I respectfully disagree in terms of Congress getting involved. I don't see a need. I believe the NFL has the desire and capability to monitor its own business. It is in its best interests to do so, and there are far better matters for our time."

I've seen a few interveiws with this guy and he seems pretty sharp and level-headed. I actually like guys that can stand up and challenge members of their own party. I wish all of our members of government were labeled "independent". Stand on your own without catering to one or the other.

In any event Specter is going to look like a fool if he continues to persue this. His loyalty to the Eagles and his ties to Comcast will be more and more known and his credebility will be questioned. His legacy will be a disgruntled sportsfan and lobbiest prostitute for Comcast.

He's a pathetic waste of a seat for Pennsylvania. Maybe he should worry less about a SB in Feb. 2005 and more about the impact of gas, oil and deisel on the people of his constituency. His sole focus is the Patriots right now. This guy needs to retire.

The team is also the Carolina Panthers, inclusive of both states.

It's very similar to the New England Patriots.

It is ironic that I have read Patriots haters on other boards call Patriots fans dumb for saying that Congress has better things to do and then a Republican Senator along with Ted Kennedy have echoed that same sentiment.

The only people who want this independent investigation are Specter, the NY Times (which has been Specter's mouthpiece this entire time), and adament Patriots haters. Yet, I bet Specter will talk about how he has overwhelming support across the country and in the Senate although all he can point to specifically is the NY Times article.

I would welcome an investigation. It obviously should not be from the Senate, as they have other far more important issues to deal with.

But if some entity wanted to conduct an investigation into this crap OVER THE ENTIRE LEAGUE, then I say bring it on.
