I was just in the car and heard on 810 sports radio out of kansas city that the Patriots are one of 3 teams interested in Jared Allen.
According to the guys on the radio, the chiefs turned down the offer of minnesota's 1st and 3rd this year.

Chiefs are looking for the vikings 1st and 2nd this year and swapping 1sts next year if the chiefs have a better record or the vikings first if the chiefs have a worse record.

I remember last year we showed some interest in him. Sounds like it would cost us the #7 overall based on what they turned down. I don't see it as a need position but he's a hell of a player.

That might be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. 1st and 3rd or 1st and 2nd and they think the Pats are players for another DL? Puh-f***ing-lease! Blowing smoke is one thing, this is a tire smouldering!

yea the bucs are also interested in him. I heard the bucs offered Jevon Haye and a 2nd round pick for him.

He just turned 26 years old and had 16 sacks last year. He's a REALLY good player.

Id be shocked if they sign him, but if they do I wonder for what position whether its OLB in the 3-4 or do we switch to a 4-3 and he plays end.... plus I doubt the Cheifs want to see him week 1.

At 6'6", 270 he's not too big to play the rush LB role depending on his quickness and how fast he learns. With all the talk of Ellis, etc, though, I can't help but wonder if we may be looking for another really good DL for the many sub packages of short yardage and passing downs. We'll still be a base 3-4 but there's a LOT of downs where a base 3-4 team can play 4 DL.

I know this is off topic, but where did the thread on Seau go?? Looks like it disappeared into thin air.

I'm really curious as to whether or not he's going to return.....

Im also thinking maybe the Pats know its a longshot landing either Gholston or Long and are willing to give up the 7th pick and one of there 3rd rounders for a highly productive proven vet. I wonder how much of a differance it would be paying the #7 pick as to J.allen, the only problem is this guy has a history of drinkin...

having watched Jared Allen the last 2 years the Patriots would be fools NOT to make a move for him if they can. Hes terrific, and would be a perfect Belichick player, flexible, and all impact. He's been dominant with no help, surround him with what the Patriots have and watch out!

didnt he miss 4 games last year and still ended up leading the league in sacks with 16?

He got 16 sacks in 14 games. He did get a 4 game suspension but it must have been reduced to 2 games.

What's his off-field issue? I know he was suspended? Was it performance enhancing, drugs/alcohol, I can't recall?

"Three-year veteran defensive end Jared Allen, the Kansas City Chiefs' outstanding young pass rusher, has been suspended by the NFL for the first four games of the 2007 season for repeat violations of the league's substance abuse policy.

The suspension was first reported by The Kansas City Star on Friday afternoon. Allen was apprised of the league sanctions earlier in the day. The Chiefs had anticipated league sanctions against the defensive end.

Allen, 25, was twice charged with DUI in the past year.

"I'm sorry my actions of last year will affect my teammates, coaches and fans," Allen told the Star. "I have definitely learned from my mistakes and am glad to finally put this entire thing behind me once and for all. I will be with the Chiefs this year and will do everything I can to help bring a championship to the great fans of K.C."

They turned down the 17th pick, and the 73rd or 82nd (they've got two thirds) for Allen? He's a very good player, but the guy's also had some issues off the field, and wants to get paid significantly.

The word here is that the Vikings absolutely love him and are willing to pay him what he wants and the chiefs think they can get them to give up the picks that they want. It sounds like they are trying to use the PAtriots and Bucs against them. They have not mentioned any more or in any detail what the interest from the pats was. It could be due dilligence or it could be they are thinking he would be the OLB linebacker option.

They love Derrick Harvey too but probably figure they would have to trade up to get him. If you're gonna use a #1 and #3 on a DE you might as well take the proven one in Allen.

If I was looking for a 4-3 DE I'd give up the #7 for Allen in a heartbeat. As a 3-4 LB? If they feel he projects well enough, I certainly wouldn't be against it.

I also read somewhere else that after all of his alcohol issues, this guy now OWNS A BAR. I'd steer clear of him if I were the Pats or anyone else. He may be one more DUI away from a year long vacation.....

I wouldn't give up the #7 overall pick for an alcholic who has already been suspended for violating the NFL substance abuse policy. I would be surprised if the Pats offered anything more for him than their 2nd rounder with maybe a future pick if he can keep his nose clean.
