Re: Pats sign Aiken a ST receiver type

4. The deal with Moss was interupted when Daunte getting past security ran in sobbing. This is the next big thing in the Patriots eyes so they gave Randy's money to Sam.

Accually Randy saw that and told them to just sign him and let him be the new Punter

I hope this isn't an indication that Jabar has played his last game as a Pat....:(

He may have, but I think the Moss re-signing is more likely to impact that than this. I think it's more to allow Washington to play more on offense. I still think there's room on the team for Gaffney though, and I expect he'll be back.

3. Were cutting willie andrews and using this guy as another gunner.

The above is my take on the situation if indeed he is signed. Further, I wouldn't write him off as a potential depth WR nor would I necessary say Washinton's ahead of him on the WR depth chart. And because I'm assuming the Pats didn't sign him close to Welker money, I like this signing.

So out of all the possible free agents, how is this one of the first guys you contact on the first day of free agency.

Aiken signs on for 2 years

Receiver Sam Aiken’s contract with the Patriots is a two-year package with a maximum value of $2 million should he reach all incentives.

Aiken, who suited up for the Bills from 2003-2007, projects as a core member of the Patriots’ special teams units. His agent, Alvin Keels, said the Patriots made a strong push by contacting him on the first day of free agency.

“Coach Belichick reached out at around 11 that morning, and that was a big deal to him,” Keels said. “That call on the first day made Sam feel like the Patriots really wanted him.”

Aiken flew into town Sunday night and the sides reached a contract agreement this morning.

What do you have against value based players that can provide huge roles on special teams?

They said their main priority was to sign Moss and they did that to a better contract than any of the others that were thrown around in free agency to this point.

Not that I have anything against it, but we have a better version of Sam Aiken in Kelly Washington. That's all.

He, Gaffney, and Washington could still all wind up on the roster if the Pats skimp someplace else.

One would be to limit themselves to 2-3 TEs.

Mel Mitchell's job is also at risk. Ditto Willie Andrews, if he doesn't make the progress on Downs 1-3 they hoped for.

There could be more to Sam Aiken that meets the eye...he has NEVER played with a good NFL QB. We know the Bills have been completely lacking in that area. It wouldn't suprise one bit if he turned into something more than we were expecting.

Well, I had predicted that Kelly Washington would be starting opposite Randy Moss next year. This is further indication that this may be the case. Wait and see I guess. But BB has talked glowingly about Washington's work ethic and has the size to force teams to pay attention to him, something Stallworth didnt have this year.

As I recall, that was Sammy Morris' role last year... You know, the RB most here were predicting would be camp fodder or Eckle/Evans replacement even after they saw his contract was nothing to snicker at.

These are the guys fans can't predict interest in because they nver heard of them...

A good point..many did NOT understand the value of Morris...same could be with Aikens...if that helps the ST for 08..GREAT!! If ANY of the 53 can be improved on that is what is important..not just the 22 starters...
