Looking forward to Groves' performance

Yea, I like Groves. He's one of the guys I've been looking at for NE over the past few years, and I think his pass rush/burst, pursuit, overall athletic ability, and attitude (he actually dislikes QB's) would be outstanding from the OLB position in NE's defense.

Before his toe injury in 2007 some scouts were projecting him as a top 6-14 pick, and as either the second or third pass rusher in the draft. It seems his performance at the combine might have reminded people of what he can do on healthy wheels, and could have brought his draft stock back up. Also, maybe after fully reviewing his tapes they'll realize that while only playing in 11 games (he missed two), and playing through pain, he still recorded 23 QB pressures in 2007.

From what I understand his toe injury is completely healed, and shouldn't be a concern, but his having that injury in the first place could still effect his stock, to some extent (it at least effected his production). So, I'm saying he'll probably go somewhere in the 13-24 overall range. I wouldn't be shocked if a team picking a little higher took a shot at him though. Some of his draft stock will also depend on how well he interviews (like all of these guys), so we'll have to wait and see.

The only problem that I see with those numbers are that i heard on pro days and other workouts the players have cleats with studs that really help in straight line speed but u could never play a game with them on. The numbers are not close to what game speed is.

That could be said for every player in the draft, so why pick on Groves?

I didn't mean it as a knock on Groves but just reflecting my distaste for the numbers often being taken as football translatable.

The 40 numbers are highly distorted when used to compare players. i.e. people could assume that groves ran faster than 1/2 the cornerbacks in this years draft. The players performed under different circumstances, groves in a unrestricted run meaning he could use these cleats, while the other players numbers posted are from the combine where they dont allow the cleats. Basically for example people might assume that groves (260 lbs 4.43 forty) is almost as fast as Adrian Peterson (215 lbs 4.4 forty)
