Here was one positive thought for the day, at the expense of Giants fans. When Eli returns to form next year, as he inevitably will, how will Giants fans respond.

Will they give him the benefit of the doubt for the Super Bowl he managed to get them?

Or will they get on his case immediately when he turns back into a pick machine?

Discuss...

(Although I should know the answer seeing as our 3 time super bowl champion Tom Brady takes a ton of criticism if he overthrows two balls in a game)

Unfortunately, Giants fans can give him the benefit of the doubt for at least three years.

dude, it's new york.

3rd interception -- he gets hit in the head w/a battery.

He will be praised as a hero forever. He has a free pass forever, believe it or not

If you're a Sox fan, does Derek Lowe have a special place in your heart?

Yes, but he was not on the team the following year. I get you're idea though. I think Foulke is a better example because he sucked the year after the World series.

What cracks me up about Giants fans is that even their own team basically admitted they (the fans) sucked this year because they had a crappy home record and liked to play on the road better. Now it's all sunshine and puppies, but man. Those fans didn't exactly have a banner year "supporting" their team.

Except THAT year we didn't think Foulke sucked. Same couldn't be said for Lowe.

You're making my point. Foulke was run out of town because he was killing the team the year after, even though he was probably one of the biggest factors in the WS run. Whatever. I think they'll be on Eli's case by week 4.

Let's be honest, the Pats blew 4 interceptable passes on that last drive and Tyree made a catch for the ages. Amazing how just one play changes every perception from that game. Eli is a decent QB but not a great one. Not even close. In an NFC East that's loaded the Giants will struggle to make the playoffs next year.

As a Giants fan this poster is absolutely correct.

It's all right there in the OP's name with a little twist: EliIsGod

Since I live outside of NY here's what will happen. They will boo, but he's now their Eli. The same way that when we lost the SB to the Packers Drew was our QB so we could even though he was THE man at the time. If they boo Eli their attitude is "It's none of your damn business, he's one of ours". If the Giants were to play the Colts next year the fans would wish Peyton dies in a grease fire and at the same time flood a Giants message board on the loss of his brother if it happened.

He did a great job getting out of a sure sack, but that pass was basically asking to be picked off or at the very least, knocked down. It wasn't an unbelievable performance, it was a good performance...and I guarantee you that if the Giants struggle next year, his head will be back on the chopping block. Think about it--Joe Torre won 4 World Series, and many of the fans wanted him gone, which is just idiotic. No free pass for Manning.

The very best thing about football is every season is new experience. Some players continue playing well, others have flashes of brilliance followed by a return to previous average levels of performance. So the question is will Eli continue on with his performance of the last 4 game. Or will he perform like his previous 3 years. I personally, as a Manning hater, expect him to return to his past. But as he is from NY, the city of the super ego, they will not notice for several years. And will try to compare him to every great QB the game ever had.

I see it similar to the reaction when the Pats won their first Superbowl. There was a large contingency of fans who still supported Bledsoe and were not totally sold on Brady. It took a few more years and a second Superbowl for Bracy to reach 'God' status in New England.

What cracks me up is that if Eli throws a pick at the end of that game all the NY frauds would be roasting him and Coughlin calling for their heads. Typical.

I wont go into why you are dead wrong on this point but every Yankees fan who wanted him gone including yours truly loves Joe but realized it was just time for a change. Eli will be cherished and regarded as a NY legend.

He's legit, IMO. Who cares if the Giants fans turn on him? I don't. That being said, I think that he is gonna be a very good QB in the NFL for a lot of years to come.

Manning won a Superbowl by doing what QB's are not supposed to do, namely chucking the ball up in the air on a prayer. He lucked out that some schmuck had stickum on his helmet and managed to come down with it. 9 times out of 10 that pass is intercepted and their season is over.

One and done, same as his brother.

Wow..if you can say that catch was pure luck then you have never been on a football field. Luck?? That catch was not luck my friend.
