Agreed. The Giants secondary is not exactly fleet-a-foot, so I wouldn't be shocked at all if Stallworth has a big day.

Good post. I really think NE is going to run a lot of quick WR/TE/RB screens early on to negate the Giants pass rush. I wouldn't be surprised to see them implement a shovel pass or two to Faulk-Maroney. That could be huge, given it's a play we hardly ever run.

If they can slow down that rush with those types of plays, it will be a long day for New York.

Donte is great after the catch, but I think you're forgetting how Dangerous Moss used to be on similar plays. I remember him blazing past DB's, and taking a few of those WR screens the distance.

You can also throw deep on the Giants secondary, so that has to be encouraging for Stallworth and Moss. Including the playoffs, they've given up six TD passes that have gone for 35 yards or more. Meanwhile the Patriots have allowed only two TD passes of 35 yards or more and one was a complete fluke (Addai's scramble at the end of the 1st half).

Add to that Terrell Davis' supporting assertion that Plaxico will excell by "using his mental game with his mind" (as opposed to most players, whose mental games are executed solely by their skulls and ears), and you have.... a slow, boring, terribly anchored day on NFLN.

obviously you're confused as to which player we're talking about, but you also got something else wrong. When Stallworth knocked the tackler down it wasn't a Safety, but CB Jacques Reeves.

Plaxico has a banged up knee, and his ankle isn't right. He didn't practice most of the week, and I would guess he will be a half step slower with a whole lot less ability to do much juking.

The Patriots are healthy, hungry, talented, well-coached, and if they don't defeat themselves with mistakes and stupid penalties (Rodney...don't get personal with the opposition), this team should become the yardstick against which all future great teams will be measured.

No doubt. I was at the Army-Marshall game when Randy made what may be the greatest college football highlight of all-time, so I remember his tackle breaking ability of old as well as anyone. But this year, he just hasn't had that same dimension; I feel like this is the one weakness in his game, actually. Donte, on the other hand, is very slippery and tough to bring down. I've liked Stallworth to have a huge, breakout (well, not breakout, but huge anyways) game in these playoffs but he's disappointed to this point. Maybe this is his game? I really think Donte needs to be back next year, and I don't think his spot could be taken over by a Chad Jackson.... though Chad Johnson would be fine . As for Plaxico, he's just a pretty standard tall receiver who allows Eli to make so-so throws that he can come up with. He doesn't have the gamebreaking ability of a Hines Ward, let alone a Randy Moss.

As for DonBlackmon55, I really don't think I need to jump on the pile, so to speak.

My theory

Stallworth may make some big plays, but I predict he'll play only 18 snaps, so he'll have to make them count. Look for Gaffney to get more snaps than Stallworth. And look for Moss to make not-too-many catches, as the Giants double him up and allow us more open short passes, guaranteeing we'll score less than 45, but guaranteeing we'll score more than 25.

I agree, Randy's current after the catch ability isn't what it once was, and Stallworth should be a member of the 2008 NE Patriots.

When I first pointed out Moss' previous after the catch ability it was in response to someone saying Donte might be the best he's ever seen in this particular aspect of the game. I'll say Donte's among the best in the league right now, but he's not among the best I've ever seen, which was my only point.

I'd say he's not even the best on the team. Welker is more elusive, more slippery. He may not have Stallworth's strength and speed, but he's indefinably harder to take down before he wants to be taken down.
