PostGame Thread OFFICIAL 2026 Post Game Thread: Patriots Finish with a 13-13 tie against the Colts

Immediate Postgame Reactions
Vrabel will help Borregales with any confidence issues, just as he did with Stephenson with his fumbling issues last season.

Larison looks like he's going to have a Burkhead role on this team.

Kyle Williams is going to be a serious threat for defenses to handle.

The rookies played OK, but they have a lot to learn. The good thing is that they look like they belong in the NFL.

Overall the best news is that they have gone from the worst roster in the NFL to a situation where they are going to be cutting prospects who could turn out to be quality NFL players in less than 2 years. Great job by Grabel and Co.

Barringer has a huge leg but needs to be consistent with it.

Swinson had a good night. He will be tough to cut. I think he makes the 53 or he's gone. Jones (edge) looked good too. But I think we can slip him onto the ps.

RB3 is a tight race.

Punty maybe had the best night of anyone. Hats off to the scouting staff. Not to get ahead of myself, but I see a works where if he continues to improve he could take the CB2 job next year.

OL I didn't catch a lot of, but I know Bryant is a guy who I feel confident in as OT3.

Williams has what it takes to be a star in this league. Unfortunately he is lacking that something. Hopefully he can be good though
... But each day he fails to put it together I feel less optimistic he will ever come close to reaching that potential.

I will need to watch the game again. Too much to keep track of. But Raridon, Jacas, Lomu and Punty all feel like good picks as of now.

That's the second time you have said that Williams " lacks something," but haven't been able to say what that " something" is. That's pretty weak Bob. If you have a valid criticism of him Bob that's fine, but at a minimum you should be able to say what it is.

I'd love for someone to explain how this was a fumble at the goalline. The ball is clearly across the plane when the ball is knocked free so it has to be a TD or runner down surely?

It's simply not conclusive from the angles we saw. At least not "clearly"

NFL+ - $6.99 per month.

Last time I tried that it was worse performance than Streameast. Do you have it? Replay quality, etc?

I'll happily pay $7 to watch the games with no stress but it was galling how terrible the performance was the first year they shoved us off of Gamepass and the options were DAZN **** or NFL+ and a VPN on a ****ing android emulator.

TYT apparently doesn't have any interest in seeding preseason games and 720pier is down for a week.

The replay ok but I don't have your refined requirements. I grew up on b&w tv with 3rd world antennas.

Man, kickers are the worst. They’ll convince you they’re your guy for the next decade one year and completely lose their psyche the next.
Agreed ….his miss of one of the 55-56 yarders is not shocking but to miss both plus the 49 yarder to win it in YOUR stadium with no real wind …..yeah that is a bit concerning

So the good.

Baringer
Jam Miller's running.
Lan Larison as a receiver.
TD for Kyle Williams.

And that's about it.

I didn't really watch the OL but Rizy seemed to do OK and I don't remember James Hudson giving up pressures in the 2nd half when he switched to LT.
OL depth remains a problem….some sloppy penalties too. I’m sure those will work out… But we may have to sign some more depth guys.

The battle for the 3rd RB will come down to pass blocking and who is the better kick returner. I'm not sure running or receiving will factor into it too much provided they can get one of them onto the PS.
I was really impressed by Jam Miller… And that was behind a lot of second string OL. I think he should be the #3….. Jennings is on IR and honestly hasn’t been healthy for quite a while so I’m not sure what to make of all of that… Larrison showed some flashes making some catches out of the backfield, but probably not enough thus far……. Hasty and Hassan (sounds like a middle Eastern Restaurant you kind of know what you’re going to get out of these guys ….pretty average play

Was the backup long snapper they just signed in tonight? Wonder if that threw off kicking operations.
Very good point….Borregales did mention that the new LS they signed did things a little differently…hinting it may have thrown off timing or something ….not sure how that all works honestly

My observations:

  1. No push on the right side of the line in the first half where most of the runs went. (Hudson and Lomu)
  2. Tommy Two- Chains has poise in the pocket
  3. I think the pass blocking was pretty decent overall
  4. Kyle Williams demonstrating some shake & bake for an easy TD vs the contested catch approach
  5. Raridon looked decent
  6. Saunders is an INT machine apparently
  7. Barringer is feeling it.
Let’s hope that Barringer can keep that vibe going…. Would love to see him bounce back.

We will see how the rest of camp and preseason goes, but I think if you put Miller on the practice squad, he’s gone… Larrison was really slow in the running game but looked good with receiving chances…. Can’t imagine that being enough to be the number three.

No diamonds in the dirt. Only one major worry: Borregales. I thought he was bad last year, but he was a rookie. Unfortunately, he seems to have gone backwards.

(Also: the inane preseason announcing reached new depths. Two mumbling McCourtys plus Zo -- who doesn't mumble but has nothing relevant to say. Describe what is in front of you and who is playing -- all the more important when they are not stars. Do some preparation as if you were a professional, instead of stealing money and wasting our time rambling about football-shaped cakes and other such nonsense.)

I don't understand the grief Chism gets.

Did that data analysis really try to combine 80% preseason games against scrubs with 20% real games? That’s a new one.

I like Chism. How can you not? He works hard and does everything well. But when the game cranks up that final notch from practice and preseason to full NFL speed, his athletic limitations start to show.

What I don’t get is, who but die hard football fans actually bothers to watch a preseason game? So isn’t this the perfect opportunity to talk about what’s on the field and the evaluation process?

But instead we get an excruciating stream of man-cave banter and inside jokes. I keep thinking “guys, can’t you try to do some actual work now then go out for a beer together later?”

He's no more athletically limited than Amendola or Welker. They did just fine.

They certainly did, but I just don’t see the same qualities in Chism. I would be delighted to be wrong.

Meanwhile I have irrational optimism about Cameron Dorner. Based on a way-too-small sample size, he reminds me of a smoother Jakobi Meyers. FWIW one pre-draft writeup I saw listed Romeo Doubs as comp for his upside.
