In a man run blocking scheme the RB is given a hole to run to and each blocker is assigned a man and which direction to block him in. In other words everyone knows where the play is going and block accordingly.
In a zone scheme you block the man in your area and take him
whichever way you can. The RB picks a hole based off the blocking.
Outside zone scheme is when you prefer to run wide and block it like zone.
But the difference in running wide is the RB has a lot of E/W territory to cover so he cannot hestitate to read the blocks, but since it is more in the open field he has more time and space to read them. Successful outside runs are always out running the defense to the edge. You can’t afford to hesitate because pursuit will catch up. The other difference with the outside run is as soon as the ball is pitched or handed off every player on the defense is running to the point of attack, and since you are running to the edge cutting back brings you right into the flow of the pursuit.
Every team runs all of these schemes but favors some over others. The patriots are heavily a man blocking run team.

Someone just posted a vid that mentioned Henderson came from a college program that ran a lot more wide zone, so he had to develop the sense to play more N/S, quick-to-the-hole man-blocking run game. So if the Patriots are running that run concept the most, truly I guess the last thing Henderson needs is patience. If anything, it's continue to sharpen vision to know which hole to hit & continue to get used to a man-block run game.

And I guess hope the OL improves on their game from last year.

I am very encouraged about the OL. LT will be improved with Campbell in year 2. LG will be excellent it AJT stays healthy. C will be much better. I expect Lomu to take over at RT by the end is the season and improve that too but he can also step in at both G and T spots if there is an injury.
We could very likely be at least average or above average at all 5 spots

Henderson has a huge upside. It was interesting to me that he came heralded as the best pass blocking RB in years but had to give way to Stephenson in those situations when he got to the pro's. His technique is close to perfect, the problem was that he didn't understand the complexity of pro defenses, so he couldn't identify who to block. And it was pretty much the same for him offensively, as he has exceptional talent, but had difficulty reading blocks and allowing them to develop fully. Hopefully a year of coaching and learning will improve his skills in these areas significantly, because his talent is undeniable.

over 1100 combined yards and 10 TDs, over 5 yards a carry his rook rook year, and he left yds on the field and played sparingly early.
Sky is the limit for Hendo.
Dre is also a very talented back, so it's hard to imagine Hendo's numbers being crazy better just because the Pats will employ both assuming health.
This is very similar to the Lions with Montgomery/Gibbs their first couple of years together.
Detroit used both, didn't want to overload Gibbs due to his size and Montgomery being a very capable back himself.
Having a true bell cow RB is great......for Fantasy, but it's much better to have two capable guys that can both run and catch from a team perspective.
This is not to say Hendo can/will ever be a productive as Gibbs, but he is certainly capable.
