Celtics 2025-2026 Discussion

Wow. You calling anyone a narcissistic blowhard.
Nobody blows harder than you, Threlonious
The sucking of the likes of you makes for a fine balance, now doesn't it. I play my role; you play yours.

They need to take that ridiculous fiddle and diddle offense and put it where the sun don't shine. And it doesn't matter if it's Tatum or Brown that killing the 24 second clock and the offense.

Jalen. Instead of crying about the refs why not work on your foul shooting.

And get rid of the HC.

Did you watch the games? If you did, how could you say these things? Jaylen Brown had every reason to complain about the refs. They simply refused to give him the calls that they gave other players. Brown is treated like a rookie when he drives to the hoop. Hell, the whole Celtics team gets treated like rookies.

Let;s compare Brown to the king of the free throw line: SGA. Here are the number of free throws for the two:
FTA/FT
536/426
814/540

Those numbers are pretty significant. But wait, it gets better. Here are the number of shots attempted:
FGA/FG
1543/736
1321/731

So even with 222 fewer shot attempts, SGA got 114 more free throws. To be honest, when I looked at the game logs, I felt like I needed to look up the refereeing crews, because there were games when Brown got the calls, about a third of the games at a glance, which is a lot higher than I would have thought watching the games. I might be that even in the games where he got to the FT line a lot, he was fouled even more.

And don't get me started on "if they stopped complaining, maybe they'd get the calls" BS because a lot of players and coaches complain just as much as Brown and the Celtics.

As for Brown's free throws, he significantly improved his free throw shooting this season (.795 vs .764). I do wish it were higher but he got better and that's not easy at his age.

I don't agree with the dig at the coach. They were the #2 seed in the East because Jaylen Brown put this team on his back and the coach played his entire bench, game after game. Mazzulla was a great coach... until Tatum came back. He seemed to change when Tatum came back. Was he pressured to do things differently? We'll likely never know.

I haven't followed the NBA for 20 years - lousy basketball played by self-adoring twats - but I caught a brief interview with Mazzoula after the game. What a narcissistic blowhard. I wouldn't hire him to manage a Frialator station. I know the players in the NBA smoke a lot of dope. I guess the coaches are following suit?

You must be fun at parties.

Agreed. I like Joe but I believe his analytical philosophy gets in the way of what is really transpiring in the game. Mike Malone would had been my choice as a head coach.. Denver did him dirty! Sucks that Ime chose the wrong female to fratenize with or he would have still been here! I'm leaning towards a coaching change as well..

I hear ya bresna.. as your a spot on poster.. but I believe muzzulla philosophy hurt them. Or maybe they just need a talented big man.?

I have to be honest... I almost posted at the beginning of the playoffs, "I don't see the Celtics getting out of the first round. Their record against winning teams combined with the way the refs have been calling their games will be too much to overcome", but I backed off because I didn't want to come across too negatively.

Despite the continually bad refereeing, I really enjoyed this season. It was great to see Brown shine. I only wish he got treated the same as any other player when he drove to the hoop, without having to flail & flop to get the call. Brown played old school while the refs called him new school.

I'm telling you, if the NBA doesn't find a way to stop the flailing/flopping foul calls, it's going to become unwatchable. It'll be like watching a soccer game.

Jason and Jaylen are too similar. They don't play together, they take turns. Maybe deal one of them for someone who is more complementary. Michael needed a Scottie, not another Michael kind of thing.

They need a big man who can put pressure on teams and a 3rd scorer.. D white struggled this season with his shot because of the pressure to be a scorer and not having the offense come to him like seasons prior.

It's time to move on from White, Hauser and Vooch.

for giggles, keep with the Bulls example (I know...) They typically had a crappy center (cartwright, luc longley) who did the dirty work, and Horace Grant, a power forward who did the dirty work (and crazy rodman). Their best 3rd scorer was Toni Kukoc, who was a very complementary player (didn't need the ball). We got too many players whose only contribution is jacking up 3s.

Vooch is technically "gone" already. He's a free agent, so the only way they could keep him is sign him to a new contract. I don't see that happening after how this played out.

I could see White being dealt. He has excellent trade value. That said, he is due $30 million next year, $32 million the year after and he has a $34 million player option the year after that. He may be tougher to move with that contract. Then again, I thought the Celtics might have been stuck with Holiday last off season due to similar numbers (both age and $$).

Hauser has not been the same since that nasty ankle sprain years ago. He was so close to making it to the next level and being someone who could take over a game when needed. But even with the team missing Tatum and needing him to score more, he basically stayed the same, even while playing 3 more minutes per game. The fact that he makes 50% more than Pritch is pretty weird. I could see Pritch holding out next year or asking for a trade. He should be getting a lot more money in today's NBA.

Great analysis here. By moving Holiday it affected the ball movement and all season long is why even with the growth from the young guys snd development of the bench white struggled the most. Simon's handled the ball and allowed guys to roam and get open. PG is going to have to be another position to address. I believe the team does White a solid this offseason and trades him out west where he's from.. Denver I believe. Just my inclination.

I think some people need to stop talking about basketball players getting old at age 30, 32. This is not football.
Some of the best players in the NBA right now are 30 or older. And they're not getting any worse. Maybe Durant is due for a big drop-off, but Jokic, Leonard, Embiid (yes I know the injury or lack of desire to play in KL and JE but they make a huge difference) and Giannis are still all-nba level. While White had a off-season, he will not be hard to trade to a team needing to do what the Celtics just did and that's shed some salary. I don't think he's going downhill fast. I think he just had a off year. It happens.

White is a great "third wheel." maybe expensive, but good to keep if we can. I think we need a banger or two ... and I'd break break up the two J's.

Was the Vrabel dig really necessary?
I know one thing is that I won't be watching any more basketball this season. And it's not because of the what they did on Inside The NBA. That would be throwing a tantrum.
The games are not fun to watch. I will stop betting on them so I can for sure not watch them.

It may come down to that having to break one of them up.. white was able to shine when we had Porzingas and Jrue..

This makes me sick. I know other sports are like this as well and it still makes me sick.

I don’t really see why moving on from White and Hauser is going to be a net gain.

With white, his contract is about 30 million. You’re going to lose the team’s best defensive player and steady veteran leadership. In the modern NBA a $30 million player is not an all NBA player.

With Hauser I think its salary is like $12 million. So you do what exactly? Trade him or release him now you have one a call on the team as you don’t have a hyper percentage three point shooter drafting some guy like they’ve tried to do is easier said than done

So theoretically, if they were just to like release these two guys they free up a little more than $40 million in cap space; tthey bring in two other players who at best are slightly better but risk team chemistry issues. Plus, both of them has been available and durable often, which is often overlooked.

I see the biggest issue being that they had to part ways with a handful of reliable, solid contributors. This would simply be getting rid of two more of them when they need to find every day contributors like these two

The goal should be getting a Big who can score to put pressure Embid and Towns.. guys you will have to see 4x a season and in the postseason again. That allows spacing and everyone can play to thier skill levels. White is a great defender with another budding elite defender in Walsh..

Hauser’s biggest value was shooting 3’s and spreading the floor. If he can no longer so that at a high level…then he does not provide much value. He is a defensive liability.

White can be replaced to a degree with Baylor and Hugo as they will have another year in the league.
