Celtics 2025-2026 Discussion

Good to see that Jaylen Brown called out Embiid's flopping.

I do wish that the NBA could do something about that stuff.

To be 7"2 and having to flop all the time should be embarrassing.. I'm rooting for the Knicks to whip thier assess.. maxey and Edgecome as aren't going to have it as easy the Knicks perimeter guys can lock down for sure..

What a disappointment. I've never seen a team chemistry and intangibles go downhill like that so fast. F me.
All year we were saying we needed a big, and the Celts got a 3 point shooting big that can not play defense. It looks like Brad, executive of the year, blew that one.

Agreed one. I didn't understand the Simon's trade.. as Vuvacic is 35 and Simon's is 26.. he could get his own shot and single handded won a few games for us this season. Brad is a great player evaluator but yeah.. he screwed up that one.

Agreed for example look at the Knicks they were down 2-1 and woke up and realized they were the better overall team and blew doors with Atlanta.. essentially we allowed a 32 year old great player but often injured player coming off an appendix procedure and a 36 year old forward beat us.. maxey and edgecome got theirs for sure but embid and George beat us essentially. Couldn't even get out the first round.

If there was someone else that fit the bill and was available around that time, and met the salary cap constraints, I'd be critical here. Do you know of anyone? I just haven't been paying attention to the league.

Yes! I remember hearing some talk around the time of a possibility of Sacramento moving Sabonis.. during the time the team was playing well and Tatum hadn't returned yet.. put maybe Brad didn't want to commit assets or $$$... if they plan to be a contender next season then that's the type of move you make. I can bet you Vuvachic will probably be released or moved this summer..

Just a bummer all around. Lost superbowl, Red Sox fiasco, Bruins eliminated and now Celtics blow a 3-1 to Philly.

C’s Played liken they owned the league when Tatum got back. Core is still there but they need some help to keep the window open. A damn fine season considering what they lost and not having Tatum more than half the year. Total choke job I guess. I’m confident they will be back.

I think it was all about getting a trade exemption rollover, or something like it that I can't really explain but someone will eventually.

Here's the thing - why is the luxury tax such a big part of any move to make the team better? It wasn't a problem before the ownership change. Is this what Celtics fans have to look forward to from here on out? You want who? Too expensive! You want him? That'll put us onto the 1st apron! I'd rather not see the Celtics become the Pittsburgh Pirates of the NBA. I wouldn't want them to be the LA Dodgers either, but somewhere in between would be nice.

As for Brad... he gets "Executive of the Year" for slashing the team's payroll? Really? This season's success was down to two things: Jaylen Brown & Mazzulla playing the youngsters, which was not all Brad's doing.

And I'll mirror how I started this thread: They could have kept Kornet and teamed him up with Queta. He would have been a better defender than Vooch and he sets better screens. But no - you guessed it - too expensive.

I do hope the NBA players realize how badly they screwed themselves with the current CBA. It basically forces teams with more than 3 really good players to sign a bunch of cheap "fill-ins" and cross their fingers UNLESS the team is willing to pay the luxury tax. More and more teams are saying "No" to that.

I don't think they can trade for Sabonis in the offseason - they've got the Simmons $27 million trade exemption to use and might be able to get someone on the last year or two of their contract at that amount, which is a good amount to work with, but not $47 million like him

They can get Sabonis if they either 1) dump more salary (White? Hauser? both?) or 2) screw the luxury tax - get him anyway.

Brad is going to have to account for the Vuvacic trade gone wrong.. I'm sure Brad is going to find a way to attain a big man.. would be good to have Amari Williams who's already on the roster to become a player.. otherwise it's gotta be some sort of a trade.. multiple teams can always get involved when cap is an issue.

I read that Joe said the team took the decision out of his hands. I'm sure Tatum wanted to be out there.

The exact nature of the reported "knee stiffness" is what's mystifying. Perhaps they thought they could get past Philly while resting him for the next series.

The Celtics are still in good position. That is if you have realistic expectations about an NBA franchise in 2026. They have two core players locked up for a long time both of whom are in their prime, play well together, and clearly are capable of winning a championship with the right supporting cast. It would be easy to look at the Thunder and think this is the norm, but that team had a series of opportunities that other teams do not.

I think the Celtics have a good core with Tatumm, White, and Brown. I don’t know why people think trading Sam Hauser will really do anything. They would just get some mid draft pick or similar three point specialist in return. Hauser is not the problem here. His salary is not a huge cap hit. He matches well with the team. While he doesn’t have a great defense, he is okay and he rarely turns the ball over. I’m concerned about White’s shooting this season, but he is such a phenomenal player that it would be insane to try to trade him and unless they are really going in another direction with youth. Look at the impact White had in game seven; he is capable of doing things on both ends of the court, especially defense.

The guy I would try to trade is Payton Pritchard. I love the guy, but it is so hard to win in the NBA without having two way players. Offensively he’s great. Defensively he’s a liability; unfortunately this is just his DNA. He just can’t be a great defender. If they could get a good draft pick or two for him or a player I think that is the way to go. He’ll probably command a pretty big contract and he’s one of these guys where it’s kind of counterintuitive, but I suspect the team can be better without him at least relative to what he will cost

I think that Queta actually still has a lot of potential although sometimes he’s frustrating to watch. No he’s not going to be an all NBA player, but I do think he can be a very solid contributor for a few years.

The Celtics are just kind of back to the norm which is, besides their incredible championship team, they have this challenge of how you build a champion around Tatum and Brown. Now before we get mad about this, just remember 31 other NBA franchisees are trying to answer the same questions. Look at what the result has been teams have superstars like Giannis, Jokic, and Luka and are getting at best one championship sometimes zero.

They need to take that ridiculous fiddle and diddle offense and put it where the sun don't shine. And it doesn't matter if it's Tatum or Brown that killing the 24 second clock and the offense.

Jalen. Instead of crying about the refs why not work on your foul shooting.

And get rid of the HC.

I haven't followed the NBA for 20 years - lousy basketball played by self-adoring twats - but I caught a brief interview with Mazzoula after the game. What a narcissistic blowhard. I wouldn't hire him to manage a Frialator station. I know the players in the NBA smoke a lot of dope. I guess the coaches are following suit?
Wow. You calling anyone a narcissistic blowhard.
Nobody blows harder than you, Threlonious
