Reiss: Vrabel will not be present day 3 of draft

I would not expect a guy named ahmed to get it. There is a chance that he came clean to his wife and decided to show her she is more important that the team. So he did this to prove it. If thats the case, then good for him.
Thsi isn't coming from his wife. This is pure PR drivel ...

Perhaps. And maybe that happens.

We shall know in about 16 hours.
If Vrabel doesn't talk to the media tonight or tomorrow, it will be because he doesn't want to talk to the media. There's zero chance we draft a guy tonight and they send Wolf or someone else out there to say "Mike is down the hall, but he's getting prepared for a counseling session he has in 37 hours, so he won't be available to the media" and they'll expect that to fly.

I simply refuse to believe anyone with the Patriots genuinely thinks Vrabel can get out of talking to the media Thursday and Friday if he commits to not being there on Saturday. There would ABSOLUTELY be questions about why he isn't talking about the picks we've made.

It occured to me that he cheated on his wife the minute the story broke. I didn't need 3 weeks of convincing.

Anyway, no it did not occured to me that "everyone comes to this as equals" read simply as Vrabel and his wife.

It can wait. But of course it's obvious to me that this is to keep him away from the media over the next few days as these players are introduced.

You might be ok with it but I find the whole thing pretty disgusting.
I really disagree with the idea that this is some kind of “stunt”, I don’t see any way that it makes sense.

He has already made himself available to reporters this week and declined to answer questions about the incident so I don’t see why he would do that but then hide from them this weekend. He would just handle the presser the same way.

There would be no reason to “pretend” to go to counseling as a PR stunt to make it look like you did something about it, as that just gives the story new legs for no reason. The more logical approach would have been to just continue to ignore it…

The only avenue that makes sense to me is that there is a risk for him that his wife is leaving him and he doesn’t want that to happen, so he is doing whatever she wants to keep things together. That starts with marriage counseling, and one of the visits was this Saturday. He couldn’t exactly say “sorry honey I have work” if he wanted this to be successful, and it shows her that he is putting her above the job.

Furthermore, if he was absent on day 3 and didn’t say anything about it, the press would notice and wonder where he was and it would cause drama that day for the other staff, the drafted players, etc. So, again, he is getting ahead of that by telling the media a couple days beforehand and giving them the chance to throw questions at him about it (which he will decline to answer meaningfully) over the next couple nights in all likelihood.

It’s disappointing but I get it. He has to do what he has to do for his marriage right now.

People are talking like Vrabel is gonna be Ime’d. That would be a mistake. Also a totally different situation.

This is some PR gurus idea as image repair for those who care about this, not saying his wife doesn't want this to save their marriage but it couldn't be Sunday, Monday or any other day in the next month?

It just happens to be during the draft so its big news?

Guess this verifies it. You don't do this unless.....
But its over and everything is good.

The Sedona fling wont have any bearing on the Patriots at all.

Reiss says he’ll still be in contact with the team on day 3. I’m fine with that. Hope he works things out with his wife,

Obviously his marriage is in jeopardy. An NFL coach's responsibilities are pretty much 24/7, especially in-season when family takes a backseat. I'm guessing two things: (1) taking time off for counseling on the draft's third day is a tangible gesture by Vrabel to his wife that she's the most important thing in his life, and/or (2) they've hired a high-powered crisis therapist whose availability is limited. (Yes, specialized therapists like this exist a la Terry Real, who flies all over the U.S. and Canada doing family crisis intervention counseling on short notice.)

I doubt this has anything to do with Vrabel dodging the media.

A third possibility: Russini isn't working and has a free weekend.

I can see it now....He'll be on his phone while the therapist and Mrs Vrabes waits till hes done texting w/ Wolf lol

Chester Cheater.

On a side note - I wonder if he puts someone else in the room in his place. I know he said he will be in contact, and I’m sure he trusts Wolf, Cowden, Highsmith, Streicher etc, but perhaps having a coach there is still sensible. If so, who? Would he have Josh McDaniels sit in, or would it be newly appointed Assistant HC Terrell Williams?

How is this good PR?

"Hey Mike, fans are pissed and worried about this affecting the team with you being distracted and unable to do your job, so we need to come up with a way to fix that..........I got it!!! We'll schedule a counseling session on a day that makes you unable to your job!!"

I don't doubt it's needed the timing does seem PRish though why be distracted by the draft when you could just do it another day?

Also he kind of has to do it for future treatment of players, it's going to be hard to discipline a player who does similar about making good decisions and not making headlines if all he had to do was go radio silent for 2 weeks and do a 2 minute presser.

It shows the team that he's willing to be accountable for his actions.

The money he earns he could get councelling any day of the year except a couple of Holidays, it didn't fall on Day 3 of the draft by accident.

He's not joe schmoe who could only get Saturday cause the therapist is fully booked, also people want their pound of flesh before they move on they want him to suffer some kind of public humiliation like she did, this is definitely it can't even go to the draft cause you were playing footsie with the reporter.

Yep. Cowden, TW, Stretch, Wolf...they'll be fine and able to handle the later rounds. The board is already set and i'm sure Vrabes has already chimed in on which players he likes.

This is ridiculous. What is the point of doing it on draft day? Pure PR guarbage.

I did not care that he was cheating, other than it makes him a scumbag, but now it pisses me off that he is making himself a massive distraction to the team by this virtue signaling crap. This will also just make it way worse.
This is giving his wife control and allowing Vrabel to put his money where his mouth is by placing his marriage before his job.

When youre on parole things are going to be different in the future. Some of the freedom that Vrabel had is gone.

I think that is the case.

In essence Vrabel is suspending himself for a game.
