Not great. He's well down my list of safeties but sadly, all the guys I liked were gone. At least he'd probably be a decent special teamer.

The 7.14 3-cone is pretty good.. The 4.43, Shuttle, not so much..

I think he'd be a good addition. Particularly for special teams. He'd push Pettus and Mapu for snaps..

Jalen Huskey, S, Maryland

From the Beast part 1

A two-year starter at Maryland (and three-year starter overall), Huskey played field safety (high and box looks) in defensive coordinator Ted Monachino’s scheme. Formerly a cornerback at Bowling Green, he joined the Terps and then transitioned to safety midway through the 2024 season. Huskey was game for the position switch despite having zero prior safety experience (he leaned on Dante Trader Jr. and other Maryland vets in the room). He did an impressive job learning how to communicate and made all the adjustments based on pre-snap looks.

Huskey is a proven ballhawk — he recorded 18 interceptions as a high school varsity player and then 11 interceptions over his last three years of college. He has the versatility to play across the secondary, including in man coverage as a nickel, which allows a defensive play caller to disguise and expand the playbook. He needs to tighten his angles but brings physicality as a run defender.

Huskey doesn’t have top-tier speed and balance, but he has outstanding ball instincts and a feel for overlapping underneath zones. He can give an NFL team depth at strong safety.

Strengths​

• Posted three-plus interceptions in each of the past three seasons
• Tracks the ball naturally into his sticky hands
• Cornerback footwork, with the transition skills to gather and burst in any direction
• Uses peripherals to charge down and attack crossing routes
• Zero coverage penalties in 2025
• Not passive as a run defender and has pull-down strength to finish
• Hurriedly learned how to make the calls from safety perch
• Voted a team captain in 2025; willing to do whatever is best for the team
• Played wing on punt coverages as a senior (four tackles)

Weaknesses​

• Good height but short-armed with lean shoulders and only adequate build
• Straight-line speed is more adequate than great
• Can lose balance at times with upright movements
• Better linear range than when working laterally
• Inconsistent angles as downhill force player
• Needs to button up breakdown skills and tackling strike zone (tends to hit high)
• Targeting ejection against UCLA in 2025
