Pop a nice gadget player who was the spark amongst some bad patiots teams his first two seasons.. he had struggles as a starting slot earlier in the season.. he rebounded and made huge plays at times this season.. Wes Welker was primary a ST player and was traded for and unlocked his full potential.. Brown a 8th rounder prospect that morphed into a tough SOB and consummate patriots player.. Jules a former QB undersized and made the team as a STs player.. as purely stats and regular season performances Wes has my vote..
Welker was NOT primarily a special teams player in Miami when the Pats traded for him. Stop re-writing history. Welker had already become the Phins #2 receiver in terms of Targets (100) and yards (687) and was their top receiver in terms of number of receptions (67).

Allen and Buffalo was robbed in that Denver playoffs game. Allen had no problems moving the Football against Denver. I applaud this move by Buffalo: now the Patriots need to make a similar move @ WR.

You don't build a team by following the lead of other team's, you build a team by signing and drafting the players that fit your team and situation the best. What Buffalo does has nothing to do with the Patriots.

Well Buffalo's achilles after a primed Stephon Diggs for Four years was WR. To say we have had issues at that very position post Brady is an understatement. I want Drake Maye to have an embarrassment of riches at WR and TE: we are currently paltry in both areas.

Neither, it just represents my desire for an effective Offensive LIne. The team as a whole was amazing. The offensive line was way below average.

Thank you for the stats! Not rewriting anything. It's a fact.

DJ Moore is a totally Bills signing. A WR name people have heard of, but in reality...
I actually like the pressure the organization has put on themselves by releasing Diggs.. the know they must address the position.. we have a great collection of 2,3s... getting Pierce seems likely I don't see Vrabel parting with valuable draft capital?

YOU stated that Welker was primarily a ST player at the time the Pats traded for him and the Pats unlocked his potential. That is FALSE.

The Patriots need to add a WR, they aren't " paltry" at the position. Ideally they will sign a free agent and draft one, but unlike a few years ago they are bno li get devoid of talent at WR.

Ok.

What I see "continued to be a standout return specialist" AND "developed into a reliable receiver".
Agreed Zuma..what i said got taken out of context.. the discussion was centered around his position as the best slot wr I feel in Patriots history.. his stats as a Patriot tell us he was...he didn't become 100 plus catch guy until he came to us...

Welker was their primary special teams player and mostly their 3rd-4th option at WR until 2006. However, had Marty Booker played all games in 2006, both he and Welker would've either been tied for 2nd in targets or Booker surpasses him. But the Pats clearly saw something in Welker that SD or Miami didn't. The Pats signed him to an offer sheet and wanted him so bad, they just avoided the waiting period and handed Miami a 2nd round pick to get it done. Miami clearly didn't value him and didn't think twice to let him go. The Pats absolutely unlocked his potential as @Real fan 02 and saying otherwise is just plain stupid. McDaniels even says in the video they designed plays specifically for him. Conversation should just end there.

The Pats need an upgrade at Center. There is no telling if Wilson is that upgrade. Contrary to some people, Bradbury was at the bottom of the league in terms of run blocking and his pass blocking was mediocre.
LG was worse than center. Obviously, I'm thinking Wilson at C.

Rain,

You know how it goes some posters and their buddies will pile on like flies on horse ****... as @upstater1 and like yourself are world class posters... the discussion was about slot wr.. Welker has my vote. Guy was primarily a STs ace in Miami and had potential.. got with Brady and put up all pro numbers... the only knock on him was the postseason... otherwise he's unquestionably the best NE patriots slot.. no disrespect to Troy..

What a load of ********.
Do you ever watch the games?
Pierce is nothing like Hayes.
The comparison is insulting. Hayes was garbage and I do remember the weird hype when he was signed in 2002 which was totally unwarranted. His lone good year was in 2000 by default because Rocket Ismail went to Dallas, Patrick Jeffers was lost for the season and Wesley Walls was aging. Hayes did nothing since. Meanwhile, Pierce's production continues to go up as a the 3rd option and primary deep ball threat with the most plays over 20 yards on the team. In fact, he's been within the top 3 the last two years of plays over 40 yards with mediocre to bad QB's. No need to proceed further.
