If the rest of his career didn't teach you that he sucked that's your issue. You wanted to use the Drake Maye pick to trade for a horrible quarterback, also your problem. And when they didn't trade for Fields you then wanted the Patriots to take Marvin Harrison Jr. so they could " build around the wide receiver." Yes 2, you actually said that. How many times can 1 person **** up a draft pick? Unfortunately 2 you will be haunted by the #3 pick for the rest of Drake Maye's career, but don't worry, that will only last another 15 years or so.

That changes my opinion then. I would prefer Hendrickson over Pierce singe edge is a bigger need than wr.
Hopefully we sign Chaisson and Landry makes full recovery. Even then, still need a quality edge.
As for wr, still need one but I expect a step up from Williams.

One will anchor your entire offensive line for the next 5 years. The other is basically Kayshon Boutte with a couple of extra games played.

Unless the Colts blow Pierce away with a deal he couldn't get on the open market, why wouldn't Pierce wait and see what other teams offer. There is no downside for him.

Unless the Colts blow Pierce away with a deal he couldn't get on the open market, why wouldn't Pierce wait and see what other teams offer. There is no downside for him.

The WR class looks decent a lot of really Big WR's: I don't remember a WR Draft class with so many Guys 6'2 and up.

I heard this year's draft class is good, but next year's WR draft class could be historic. The draft is supposed to be good with DEs too. So I wonder if the Pats go DE high this year and wait for next year to draft a WR high. Sign Pierce or Trade for Brown. The latter could be the shorter term solution until they draft and develop the WR #1 of the future.

Diggs and Hollins both turn 34 next year the WR Cliff age... having a couple of guys in the fold this year would be prudent for the inevitable transition. I hope we Double dip this year @ WR: we have the circumstances to do it.

BTW- earlier in the thread there were the usual complaints about the franchise tag. I happen to see a chart that showed that the use of the franchise tag has DECREASED over the years, from a high of 15 times when it was instituted, to a low of 3 times this year. I have always found it hard to feel bad about a guy who is being "forced" to play for a top 5 salary for a year, especially now when player can earn GENERATIONAL money in their rookie contracts.

Even #1 draft picks are just now making what Sam Bradford did in 2010. Only the top 10 or so get "generational money."

I'm definitely in on Pierce. I realize he may not wow some people but I think he's still a legitimate WR1 and worth the investment, he would be good for the offense, and he doesn't cost any draft capital.

That said, Piece hitting the market also has a ripple effect on the rest of the market. Mike Evans will likely not cost as much when teams will be eyeing Pierce first. AJ Brown at least short term will have lower trade value since his cap hits are the same size as what Pierce's would be, but Pierce costs no draft picks. Stefon Diggs can be leveraged a bit more into lowering his salary if they can say that they could just cut him and use that salary to pay Pierce. Etc.

The thing is with the cap exploding, most teams are getting their stud players resigned prior to them becoming a free agent. So I don't know if it is really doing anything in terms of teams not wanting to tag free agents. I think it is the case that it is becoming an unnecessary tool for a lot of teams.

Pierce is big, tall and fast… the Pats could use some size/speed at WR. Drake Maye can throw it further than Uncle Rico, about time they got a WR beside Kyle Williams with some speed.

Get bigger, stronger and faster everywhere, but especially at WR. I like Boutte, but he’s really just a solid possession receiver and if you pay him you’ll feel obligated to play him. Get more explosive…
