2026 NFL Combine

This would be interesting:

"

Jack Kelly, LB, BYU

A former national champion BMX racer at age 5, Kelly developed a fearless competitive streak very early. But even more impressive might be his explosive speed when chasing the football. At 245 pounds, Kelly has the juice to run in the 4.4s and jump over 40 inches in the vertical. I’m hoping to see him in the three-cone drill, too, because his change of direction was a concern on tape."

He's a Vrabel type guy.

The 3-cone is always my key stat for an edge rusher.

Only big difference is 3-cone and shuttle. Everything else is similar but a bit worse which makes me doubt the stats. How could every stat be a bit worse? Not even one stat is a bit better? Is that why the 10 yard split is missing in the bust category?

Well I'd say that better pass rushers are likely to be better in every regard. Those are averages so that narrows the gap somehat suggesting there is some crossover between the good and bad.

The to 10 percentile are likely to be significantly better than the bottom 10 percentile affecting those averages in their respective directions. The middle 80th percentile are likely to cross over a bit more. However the gap is driven by those at the top and bottom. Just my hunch.

The only difference between good pass rushers and bad pass rushers is how well they can rush the passer. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.
So do away with the combine all-together?

Yep and only rely on tape and production. Also no pro days
I know you're half joking and I'm the production guy here but even I think it's useful to get as much info as possible.

Hell no, I was just being a smartass. I like athletic porn as much as the next guy.

I completely agree that hip and ankle flexibility and lateral agility are probably more important than linear speed.

People were wowed in 2014 by Jadeveon Clowney's 4.53 40 and 1.59 10 split at 6'5" 266#. But his 4.43 SS and 7.27 3C were pedestrian, and he never dominated as a pro.

Guys like Maxx Crosby (6.89 3C, 4.13 SS) and Trey Henrickson (7.03 3C, 4.20 SS) support the notion. Crosby's 3C was the same as Joey Bosa's. But it still takes much more than raw athleticism.

I do think if someone surprises with their flexibility and agility, they are worth moving up)or down) on your board, in the context of everything else.

Me too

He clearly has enough raw athleticism.

Bradyn Swinson (7.13 3C, 4.33 SS) may be average based on pure athleticism.
