We need to lock up Gonzo this offseason!

I think he did well considering he was a rookie. Let's not cloud our judgement based on last 2 years .

Stroud rookie season

Passing Yards: 4,108 (3rd most by a rookie in NFL history).

Touchdowns/Interceptions: 23 TDs, 5 INTs (1.0 INT percentage, the lowest by a rookie since 1946).

Passer Rating: 100.8 (3rd best by a rookie in NFL history).

Record-Setting Performance: Started his career with 192 consecutive pass attempts without an interception.

Key Game: Threw for 470 yards and 5 touchdowns in Week 9 vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Playoffs: Led the team to a Wild Card victory, becoming the youngest starting quarterback to win a playoff game.
It was a very good season, it just wasn't equal to what Maye did this year.

63.9 percent completion to 72 percent.
23 TDs vs 31 TDs.
100.8 passer rating vs 113.5
58.3 QBR rating vs 77.1

Good season, no doubt, but not that close to what Maye did this year.

I'm not a big Chris Collinsworth fan but he was 100% correct when he said Gonzo was the best player on the field in the SB.
Even ahead of Walker.
He's been a top 3 cb every year but I'll take him over everbody. He's still very young and not even close to his ceiling. Gonzo and Drake are obviously the 2 most important guys to extend

I'm hoping the Pats can get him signed to an extension where he plays for what equates to a 4yr extension where he gets 160M, but that includes 95M in guaranteed money (SB & guaranteed salary.

This would allow the Pat to pro-rate the Signing bonus over 5 years while minimizing the additional cap hit to 2026.

If he continues to play like he did in the playoffs you won’t need to pay Drake 70M

Go back to the JETS. The kid was one vote away from league MVP in his 2nd year. He missed it because some idiot voted for Justin Herbert, who was not even a finalist. Was that you? What is the point of even posting here other than trolling? A fan is a fanatic about a team. Its obvious you are not that with that post.

He wasn’t great in the regular season.

He had his best game of the year in the SB. That’s what you want from your best players. Playing their best when it matters the most. Unlike the QB.

Kudos to Gonzo he was elite in this game. Him and Woodson were the bright spot of this game.

He was excellent in the regular season, he allowed fewer than 40% of passes thrown hs way to be completed. No corner had done that since 2018. The idea that he had a poor season is complete ********. ( and that's not just directed at your post, as there was a large contingent of the usual suspects talking **** about him during the season)

I said before the SB that Gonzalez is not a Gilmore or Revis but he showed in the game that I may need to rethink my position on him. He is probably the best athlete/player on the team and he makes the secondary an above average unit. Without him I think they are below average, he moves the needle that much. They have to pay him, I don't see a world in which letting him walk will improve the team.

???

Sure, we'll negotiate with his agent after the initial free agent rush.

That being said, there really isn't any rush. Gonzo wants to stay and his agent will certainly want to see what the market pays top corner before starting the real neogiations.

That being said, Gonzo is under contract for 2026, and will 2027 option will be picked up before May1, guaranteeing him $17.5 M for 2027. A 2028 franchise amount might be $21M or so, with the 2029 being $25M.

So, the base case for 2027-2029 is $17.5M, $21M, and $25M.

He wants to stay and we should be will to pay him more than the above for a 5-year contract. My WAG is $30M AAV.

Like to, don't need to. He's a little soft. If he doesn't get his deal altered he'll have another sore hammy.
He will have a sore hammy come mandatory camps and the pre-season if they don't extend him.

I don't blame players for that. It's the only leverage they have. In the end he will play the games he's contracted to play but he'll not want to risk injury without guaranteed money.

Sitting out with an injury - fake or not - is wise from a player's business perspective.

As long as he plays the games he's obligated to play, it doesn't even bother me

I'd guess Sauce Gardner's extension sets the table for talks, although I think the Pats could make the case that Gardner is better

It’s a no brainer…

It affects how well he plays.

It also affects the likelihood he will be injured at some point in the season.

How? He isn't.
It's all subjective and comes down to how much a team values him in their system in the end

But when it comes to negotiations I'm sure Gonzo's agent will ask for Sauce Gardner money remind them that PFF has Gonzo ranked as the #42 best CB in the league last season

The Patriots will then remind him that Sauce Gardner was ranked #9 this year and has something like a 90+ rating over the previous years... I'm not saying I look at PFF as Gospel but things of that nature tend to happen when it comes to salary negotiations, like it or not.

Sauce vs Gonzo?
Ya, sure...Sauce is way better....
Dude doesn't even Tackle, because he's a fairy.
