My Ridiculously Early Start on a 2026 Offseason Plan

With FA less than a month away, I expect some aggressive moves.

What I'd ideally like to see:

- Re-sign Tonga, Chaisson and Hawkins

- Target IOL Tyler Linderbaum and AVT in FA. If we somehow get both, cit Onwenu and Bradbury.
- Sign a FA EDGE. Oweh 1st choice, but there are others.
- Sign a FA TE.

- Draft a RT successor to Moses high. Would trade up for Freeling within range, otherwise Iheanachor/Lomu/Miller.
- Find a way to get Kyle Louis and one of Treydan Stukes/Keionte Scott.
- Day 3, get 1 of DeZhaun Stribling/Cyrus Allen/Kendrick Law, and 1 of Josh Cameron/Reggie Virgil/Jeff Caldwell.

Gonzalez and Boutte extensions can come later.

I don't think it will happen, but would be open to offers for Barmore at the right price.

I have no idea how to make this happen, just a wish list.

I'm sorry but I couldn't disagree with this more.

Our interior DL is the one big strength of this team. We wouldn't have won through the playoffs without them. Barmore-Williams is not just one of the best units on our team, it's one of the best units in the NFL.

You are probably right. I agree with what you say, and have not suggested this previously.

BUT ...

1. Barmore has some big cap hits coming up
2. Barmore can be dominant at times, but inconsistent at others.
3. Barmore had a major blood clot issues in 2024.
4. Barmore had an off-field issue in 2025.
5. Vrabel benched Barmore for a quarter for disciplinary reasons.
6. This is a very deep IDL draft class.

I am NOT advocating for this, I doubt it will happen, and it would take a huge deal, but I'm not sure Barmore is untouchable. I'm just doing my best Manx imitation and kicking the tires on some radical ideas while keeping an open mind.

Kick away.

I just think our interior DL make the rest of this defense better. But you're right, there's a lot of money invested in it.

It does make the rest of the defense better, just as Christian Gonzalez does (to the guy who floated the idea of trading Gonzalez).

Just as a thought, would you trade Barmore straight up for Maxx Crosby? You could then go RT-IDL in the first 2 rounds of the draft.
I did think about that and it's probably the best alternative. Trouble is, you're not saving any money, Crosby is older and I doubt the Raiders do it if they're rebuilding because Barmore would cost too much.

Again, I'm not advocating for trading Gonzo, but I think I'd rather trade him than Barmore. The return would be greater plus the Barmore-Williams combo would help a replacement CB whomever that is by giving QBs less time to throw.

IDK the "answer" to all of this. But I think we are out of the "oodles of cap space and high draft picks" phase, and we need to figure out how to take the roster to the next level, and that will probably involve some reconfiguration, not just addition. And a lot of luck.

Jon Schneider 100% deserves his Executive of the Year award. But he was lucky that Geno Smith forced a trade with his contract demand, luckier to find a buyer, and still luckier that Minnesota let Sam Darnold walk. The Seahawks got "younger better, cheaper". He was smart to trade DK Metcalf, lucky to find a buyer. He was smart to pass on Carter in 2023 - probably the best player in the draft, but with major red flags - then lucky when Byron Murphy fell in 2024.

Gonzo is a top 3 at his position (along with Surtain and Stingly). Barmore is not, but he is a key part of a top 3 IDL (along with Philly and Seattle).

Cutting the fat will be easy. But there will be some hard choices to be made as well.

"Draft and develop". It's what good teams do.

Yes, but that includes trading away or letting go players to save cap space, upgrade, and add draft picks.

Seattle drafted and traded away Russell Wilson and DK Metcalf, among others.

Draft and develop is clearly the dominant approach for most successful teams. But never exclusive.

Just saw this, wish I'd have thought of it:

Not advocating for this, but something to consider.
I forgot about the arraignment and there being an out in his contract certainly does change things a little. The arraignment probably makes him much harder to trade I'd imagine. I can see a path to him being cut now though.

i .
AVT's best year was his 1st year and only full season. All-Rookie Team.

Key Injury Timeline:
  • 2022 (Right Triceps Tear): Suffered in Week 7 against Denver, missing the final 10 games.
  • 2023 (Achilles Tear): Suffered in Week 5 against Denver, missing the final 12 games.
  • 2025 (Left Triceps Tear): Suffered in a September padded practice, resulting in season-ending surgery, affecting the opposite arm of his 2022 injury.
43 games played; 41 games missed. Good player when healthy but that's only 50% of the time.
Thanks. You have to wonder if the tears are due to performance enhancing drugs. If so, is he the same without the drugs?

Let's hope. Very few on PatsFans are aggressive.

Why would you want Tonga or Hawkins who disappeared in the playoffs? It amazes me how many PatsFans overrate the existing players. If we resign Tonga and Hawkins it has to be at minimums.
- Target IOL Tyler Linderbaum and AVT in FA. If we somehow get both, cit Onwenu and Bradbury.
That was an easy one to call.
- Sign a FA EDGE. Oweh 1st choice, but there are others.
Agree. Again an easy call.
- Sign a FA TE.
There is huge TE depth in the draft. I am not sure signing a TE FA is critical, but I could be wrong. I am not sure Pitts, for example, will pick up our offense. Remember Jonnu Smith was a failure.
- Draft a RT successor to Moses high. Would trade up for Freeling within range, otherwise Iheanachor/Lomu/Miller.
Agree.

This is a priority. Great idea. I would add Wheatley.
- Day 3, get 1 of DeZhaun Stribling/Cyrus Allen/Kendrick Law, and 1 of Josh Cameron/Reggie Virgil/Jeff Caldwell.
You know better than me. I am just a commoner.

Agree.

That is tough. You are a bigger man than me.

Wish lists are for Asians with leather and high heels.

There are, and I have yet to identify any I feel confident about. Some will be good, I have no idea who.

Jamari Johnson in 2027 is my priority target.

Wish lists are for Asians with leather and high heels.

I wish for those, too.

And that's why depth at TE on Day 3 is a boon.

How would you feel about Omar Cooper Jr at 31?
