We need to lock up Gonzo this offseason!

He can't go anywhere. Best Patriots player on the field yesterday. Without him its 85 Bears/Patriots
Best Pats player consistently. That's not a dig on anyone else.

Hypothetically if he gets us 2 1s and a you get cornerback in trade , do we take that over keeping a CB1 for 35 million a year.

We don't win because of CBs.CB can help create the edge on game changing plays, but when we are bereft of talent on edge and other positions , CB1 is a luxury we can do away with. Seattle did not have one.

I have to agree, he made multiple huge defensive plays. It was one of the best games I've seen from him which is extremely encouraging and I have to imagine it was also really all that the front office needed to see. You want your best player to play his best in the biggest games and Gonzo has generally been elite all postseason. I am guessing they are preparing to pay him top of the market very soon.

Yep, i think as long as you have gonzo and milton here with vrabel running things we will consistently find ways to field a strong d. It will stay elite as long as we keep drafting well around these 2. Hes a must keep/ cornerstone player.

“What a difference a day makes, 24 little hours….” Before yesterday, I recall reading it might be best to make Gonzo, well Gonzo because he’s just not Vrabel’s kind if tough CB and we’ll pocket a few #1 picks. Today, we’re gonna make him the highest paid CB evah!! Gotta love it!

Carton Davis and Marcus Jones earned their $$$$$$ too.

You consider a trade if there's an impasse (e.g., they're $15M a year apart). But they're a lot farther along than, say, the JEST are in their rebuild.

And Woodson. Hawkins isn't BAD but it'd be nice to upgrade next to him and form a really dominant secondary. You always want to have core competencies that you can lean on and build scheme around. You want to have certain things that game to game you can rely on. A dominant secondary is something you can count on week to week.

If Drake keeps looking like Playoff Drake instead of Regular Drake he may not get that monster contract. I’m not convinced it’s all his OL.
Add in his OL and his receivers that can't always get open along with no holes for the running backs. You get what we saw throughout the entire playoffs vs. other elite playoff defenses.

Let's hope he's doesn't become like one of those guys Herbert or Lawrence.

At this moment regular season he looked like rookie season Stroud and post season he looked like Stroud this year .

At this moment

Higher tier : Josh Allen, mahomes. Burrow, Stafford and Brock purdy are at one level

Tier 2 - Descending or post season blues - Maye, Stroud , Herbert, hurts, lamar, dak prescott, Goff

Tier 3 - Ascending and have potential to be 2 or 1 - lawrence , Caleb, Bo nix, darnold,

Rest all are ordinary.

I am not saying now . But there is a possibility say 3 -4 years down the line when we are bereft of talent and could use those picks to start rebuild or get some cap relief.

Our window is next 4 years. So lets hope we can nail this draft too and get our 2025 rookies scale the rookie wall better.

Teams sometimes win and very frequently lose because of the quality of their CB play. Arguably it’s the second most important position on the team after QB. Some might argue WR, but if your corner can neutralize the opposing WR the way Gonzo does (and Revis and Gilmore did in years past) that pretty much shows he’s more important than the guy he neutralizes.

Did you not notice our rebuild has already started? It progressed well this year. No reason to expect it to fail in the next 3 to 4 years. If things stay on track in 3 to 4 years the next dynasty should be emerging, or have already emerged.

The good news is that he seems very open to an extension.
On Tuesday, Gonzalez said he hopes it happens.

“Oh, yeah, no doubt,” Gonzalez said. “This is where I got drafted, and I don’t want to be anywhere else.”

When it comes to a new contract, Gonzalez expects his agents to meet with Mike Vrabel and the Patriots’ front office.

“I’m not really trying to get into all of that. I mean, it’s kind of more my agents, they’ll deal with that and keep me up to speed on it,” Gonzalez said. “Coming in today, I just wanted to see the guys, hang out with them a couple more times. I mean, it’s the last time this full team, coaching staff will be in the building. So, focus on that. Hanging out with the guys one more time today. And, you know, my agents and Vrabes and all, they’ll talk.”

Stroud's rookie season was nowhere close to what Maye did this year.

I think he did well considering he was a rookie. Let's not cloud our judgement based on last 2 years .

Stroud rookie season

Passing Yards: 4,108 (3rd most by a rookie in NFL history).

Touchdowns/Interceptions: 23 TDs, 5 INTs (1.0 INT percentage, the lowest by a rookie since 1946).

Passer Rating: 100.8 (3rd best by a rookie in NFL history).

Record-Setting Performance: Started his career with 192 consecutive pass attempts without an interception.

Key Game: Threw for 470 yards and 5 touchdowns in Week 9 vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Playoffs: Led the team to a Wild Card victory, becoming the youngest starting quarterback to win a playoff game.
