OT: NFL faces calls to change playoff format after snowstorm during Patriots-Broncos

If they decide to move it, it's just a matter of time until it's in London or Germany or Mexico.

This would make anything but the #1 seed in each conference irrelevant. Sure you might want to get a certain seed to play a certain team that might be the weakest in the playoffs, but even then it might not be enough of a difference to mean anything.

Hell, in the next five or so years, most of the teams will be playing in warm weather or with domes anyway.

It’s been reported that Goodell has retained Bill Nye the Science Guy to build a weather machine to ensure good weather for playoff games.

You mean Bill Nye, the "I don't know the Ideal Gas Law" guy? The Seahawks fan who conveniently forgot science when it involved Tom Brady? Screw him.

All because the Patriots won - in the stadium that has the built-in biggest advantage of any team in the league, by far.
I HATE the people who say, "that's not football." That's crazy to me. The whole point of football is that it can be played in any weather, at any time, and the players have to overcome.

What they're really saying is, "that's not arena football." Because that's what they want to turn the game into.

Insane. Bad weather games are some of the most memorable games ever. It’s sort of like the guy who suggested crowds are really making too much noise at the games and it’s just not right. These people aren’t really sports fans at all.

Where do you draw the line? What if next year it happens in the divisional round?

But look, I will concede this point......could imagine if the whole game was played in those conditions. It does feel 'wrong' that a Super Bowl berth would be decided in a game like that where there are significant factors outside of your control.

We won, so I'm happy with the result, but it did 'stink' that our advantage "Maye passing game vs Stidham passing game" was nullified with the weather.

Let's be real, the REAL issue is that this real messed with the Vegas betting lines.

Why didn't the NFL try to make rule changes after the 1997 Fog Bowl (Steelers at Patriots)

That’s a gracious take, I can’t get to the same level. To me, conditions are part of the game and whichever team preps best for the weather, has a well deserved edge.

I think a change like the one proposed may have been the result of certain bets not being won because both teams modified their approaches to adapt.

Well they didn't have Fraudger in charge back then. You can bet your ass if the Pats allowed that kind of fog in 2026 it'd cost them $5M and a 1st rounder

Patriots coaches preach about being "mentally tough." The whole point of that is to be able to adapt to whatever gets thrown at you in the game. But that's not as entertaining, apparently.

Rumor monger Florio has suddenly become the conscience of the NFL?

This guy.....................

Florio has been shredding Belichick daily for the past year......yet yesterday, he's suddenly aghast BB was blacklisted from the HOF.

They probably just want more corporate money to run it like two Superbowls. Just like the college playoff system

Moving conference championship games to neutral sites makes playoff seeding irrelevant.

Plus teams with “weather risk” fields, which are already shut out of the Super Bowl, would suddenly be shut out of the entire post season. That’s a massive income transfer away from some owners to others—so it will never happen.
