Do you think their problems at QB are personnel or lack of quality coaches who can develop a QB?

The Pats going on this crazy unlikely run to the Super Bowl, getting the win in the AFCCG in Denver along the way to banish the demons, Josh Allen blows it AGAIN, the Bills crap their pants and fall down the stairs in a never ending loop along the way, the Ravens fire Harbawl, the Dolphins can McDummy, Tomlin is out in Pittsburgh... oh my goodness... the good things never end... if it's capped off with trophy #7 to be both the winningest franchise in postseason history and also take sole possession of most Lombardi trophies in league history, it would just be absolute perfection.

This was a season for banishing Patriots' demons. Beat Tua in Miami in the heat. Beat Allen in Buffalo. Took the division back from Buffalo. Beat Denver in Denver in the playoffs. Drake had a 4th quarter comeback.

It's like it's a fresh new team free from the baggage of the old.

If I'm trying to get a scouting profile on him to understand what he DOES bring to the team, it did seem that the Bills became pretty good at being a 2nd half team towards the end of the season there?

Laughing at the odd approach to organizational upheaval aside, in what aspects do you think Joe might improve the team? Where do you expect them to decline?

I don't know Jack about Joe.

In what way? It'd be like if Johnson took over the Lions and then wondering how they would have changed. I guess there's potential for him to change up the defense?

At first this seems silly, but I also can kind of see the logic.

On offense they probably think their scheme is fine. They have personnel issues, but that's on the front office to fix. Even if their GM Beane refuses to take the blame for it, at least they acknowledge their receivers suck and the need to improve there. They could certainly use someone to reel Josh Allen a bit so that he doesn't make 2 mind numbingly stupid plays per game, but overall I think he's clearly giving them enough to win with.

Their defense on the other hand has **** the bed so many times and that's McDermott's side of the ball. And that's been across multiple seasons with multiple personnel iterations. They absolutely needed to bring a new voice on that side. They could have kept McDermott and got a new DC, but that can be an awkward situation with transfer of power/responsibility there.

In summary, I can see why they wanted to keep the offensive system in place but switch out the defense and this is a cleaner way of doing that vs. forcing McDermott to work with a new DC outside his familiarity.

The QB is still gonna be the limiting factor in Buffalo. He will start breaking down as soon as next season, the end of this one was the very beginning. His body cannot sustain it anymore and his reckless play style will end his career just like it did to Cam. Now, he is a better passer than Cam was, but it won't be the usual Josh Allen. Which is why Maye taking less and less punishment when is running will only extend is career.

People VASTLY underestimate the value of "continuity" in maintaining the excellence of the BB era. Not just Bill, but with his main assistants too. So much time saved by experience and understanding the program and message that could be used to get better and fine tune your operation. You don't have to create and send that message. You just have to repeat it. And because you have been successful, the message will be believed, thus you save time sending it. You don't have to create and teach a new language or different language to communicate in. Life is always so much easier when everyone is speaking in the same language with the same idioms.

This isn't to say it can't be done. Christ, we just watched it for an entire season (though Vrabel and Josh's familiarity with the Pats eased things this year, a lot). But what Mike and his staff will find when they show up starting at the OTA's is how much more time they will have to actually get BETTER, how much more time they will have to become even MORE detailed oriented. They will be able to get more reps in per practice, and while that doesn't sound like a big thing, if you can add another dozen or so reps per practice, that adds up a couple of thousand over a course of a season, and THOSE extra reps might make that 1% difference at the end of the season. 1% that can mean a big deal in the playoffs. THAT's what continuity can bring.

So, while it might seem ridiculous to bring this up after a historic one-year turnaround, this will give us a bigger advantage within our division, because everyone of our opponents have so much farther to go before they can start their own continuity.
