NFL News Atlanta Falcons hire Stefanski

Share the latest NFL news from around the league here.

No QB, no hope. Got a stud RB though. Yay.

Ol Dancin' Artie The Blankman might finally have the right man, unfortunately his team may not have the right QB for Stefanski's offense. Still having Robinson and London should help

Do the Stefanski Leg

Lots of question on Penix both ability and health.
But this will probably be a better offensive roster than any he ever had in Cleveland.
He had Baker for 2 years before he grew into a decent NFL QB, Flacco, Brissett, Winston.....that's gross.
How he got the Browns to the playoffs twice and won Coach of the Year twice with those guys is pretty remarkable.

Stefanski didn’t have a QB in Cleveland and said to himself I’ll go coach another team without a QB

Maybe he thinks he can work with Penix, or has been promised the ability to find another QB?
ATL does have some nice pieces on both sides of the ball, probably one of the most desirable openings that was out there.

Also 26 by the time camp starts. He was way too old to be a 'stash on the bench for a couple of years to learn' guy.
Cousins outplayed him once Penix went out, and it was obvious.

That must be the quietest hire ive ever seen based on everything that transpired yesterday lol its like stefanski doesn’t want anyone to know he took the falcons job

Surprised this is the spot he picked. Maybe he believes in Penix or maybe he got assurances he can acquire someone else. The other offensive pieces are very good - London, Bijan, OL. It’s also probably the weakest division in the entire league so a fast turnaround shouldn’t be that hard.

If I were him I would be seeing if someone wants to trade a 2nd for Penix and keep Cousins. The Jete would probably jump on that.

He can probably get Deshaun Watson pretty cheap.
I can only assume Penix will be given next season to see if he's a viable long term starter.
Most think he isn't, and that's probably the case, but can't imagine they move on this quickly.
I'm indifferent on Steffanski, but he did seem to get some decent results with a pretty bad offensive roster during his Cleveland tenure.
I'm sure he's a lot better coach than Raheem.
Atl does seem to be a QB away from being a pretty good team, but obv that's a huge piece, the most important piece to be missing.

What a terrible hire.

So the Falcons rejected BB for Raheem Morris I said was going to get fired quickly and now Stefanski.

Talented guy. Browns made a mistake letting him go. I wonder how much of a scheme fit that roster is for his offense. Remains to be seen whether Penix can be their franchise QB. If they get him the right players, he should do well. Suddenly the NFC South is quite competitive these days.

Atlanta or Minn will probably be in the Mac Jones sweepstakes. He could succeed in those 2 systems.
But maybe Stefanski will trade for Gabriel and roll.

I live on Atlanta…the natives are not pleased lol.

Mostly because “they needed a black HC to win”.
I mean I'm certainly not against black coaches, but there's nothing magical about them. I was more than ready to support Mayo if he worked out, turns out, he didn't, oh well, next man up. Hell, if Brian Flores had come here instead of either Mayo or Vrabel, I would have been overjoyed, he was clearly one of Bill's better students.

Focus on getting a good coach, and you can't do that if you pile a bunch of random nonsense criteria onto the talent search.
