If you could bring back only ONE Patriot from the past, that has NEVER made the Pro Bowl in their career, to play on this team for rest of the year

****, I figured this was an exercise in doing your research, but never would have guessed Develin got in. Sorry to start the string on picking Develin.

Then Stephen Neal is my pick.

My dream is to meet Brock Lesnar and say, "Stephen! STEPHEN NEAL! Can I have your autograph!?"
great pick ... losing him in 46 42 turned that game... while I loved russ hochstein, he wasn't up to the task...

Tip made the Pro Bowl five times.

Tip was part of the HoF class of 2008.

The other player that would be great to have this year is 1985/1986 Garin Veris.

14 sacks including 4 in the playoffs in 1985 SB run and another 11 in 1986. In the 1980s all decade team but don't think he made a probowl.

Maurice Hurst might be nice on defense.

Stephen Starring might be nice for offense and special teams to give Marcus Jones a break. Also RIP as of October 18 of this year

Then there's a trio of forgotten WRs that I liked.... Brisby, Crittenden, and Timpson.

He never made the Pro Bowl because by the time he arrived the voting public suffered from Patriot fatigue. Didn’t matter how much they won. People hated the Pats by the 2010’s.

Solder was also unappreciated by casual Patriot’s fans. They didn’t realize how little assistance he received on the left side from TE’s and other help blockers. The offensive coordinator always left Nate out there on an island because he was an advantage. He also could pull like a really mobile guard, unique for the tackle position. Most fans couldn’t understand.

Matt Light made 3 Pro Bowls and one All Pro team… no offense to Matt Light but Solder was better. It’s just timing, when Light played the Patriots were just ascending.

HUH??? What do you mean how little help from the TEs and other blockers? You're acting like Light had a TE on his side every snap. Which just wasn't the case. You're also acting like Solder didn't have Gronk, Hoomanawanui, and Allen at different times on his roster who, most certainly, lined up next to Solder.

Who were the RTs that played opposite Light? Kenyatta Jones, Adrian Klemm, Greg Robinson-Randall, Grant Williams, Brandon Gorin, Nick Kaczur, Ryan O'Callaghan. Do you realize that it took until 2006 before Light had the same RT playing opposite him?

Who were the RTs who played opposite Solder? Vollmer, Cannon, Cam Fleming, Waddle. Fleming and Waddle saw spot time covering for Cannon. Otherwise, that side was stable. A stark comparison to 2001-2005.

Which O.C. left Solder on an island? O'Brien, who was his O.C. for a year? Or McDaniels, who was the O.C. for the rest of Solder's Pats career? Did Light receive help against certain DEs like Jason Taylor? Yes. Do you think that Solder DIDN'T receive the same help against the top DEs like Wake, Mario Williams, Jerry Hughes, Julius Peppers, etc. He did.

In Matt Lights worst year (2006), he gave up 5 sacks, 11 hits, and 34 hurries on 718 pass blocking attempts. Solders worst year as a Patriot (2017), he gave up 4 sacks, 10 hits, and 46 hurries on 827 pass blocking attempts. Light's All-Pro year, he gave up 4 sacks, 10 pressures, 24 hurries on 767 pass blocking attempts. Solder's BEST year was 7 sacks, 10 QB hits, 18 pressures on 785 pass blocking snaps.

For you to says that Solder was, hands down, better than Light is a stretch and ignores so many things that it's really sad coming from a guy who touts his football knowledge.

I knew I was forgetting a G on my list when I added Andruzzi. That was SB42 when he got injured.

I'm surprised he never made a pro bowl but I remember him as always playing pretty solid when protecting TB12's blindside.
I've never seen a LT chase after so many whiffed blocks. Countless times I'd hold my breath hoping Brady would release the football in time. He got exposed badly after leaving NE.

Light before Solder, was also a chaser bailed out by Brady's pocket presence.

Veris had a great year, he was undersized though by even 1980s standards. Now he'd be engulfed.

1985 was the year Ken Sims finally played like his all world self. He was dominant against the run and applied great pressure from the interior.

With Sims, Barmore and M Williams, we could play each down with 3 DL, 3 LBs (either Landry or Chiasson) and 5 DBs.

I remember thinking, finally Sims is showing what he could do (because I excused his bad play because of his injuries, broken leg, etc.) but then in the following years, it was clear he just lacked motivation.

1985 Ken Sims gave us one of the greatest years for a Patriots D-linemen in franchise history... only 5 sacks but a lot of pressure up the middle.

ahhh that would be correct, he left the team by 2011 / 46, so it was 2007 / 42 ... thanks

I was shocked to see Edelman never made a pro bowl, but I feel like this team needs more help in the D side so I'd go with my binky, Ninky. (Rob Ninkovich)

He didn't make it because there were too many outside WR's that put up big stats. The NFL should include "slot WR" as one of the positions to be voted in like "3rd down back" and "slot CB", etc. He would've made it every year. Same with All Pro. The narrative on him would've been changed completely.

You’re the Patriot fan(s) I was referring to. If the fickle biased voting public didn’t tell you who was “good,” you probably wouldn’t know.

The Patriots got hosed by the 2010’s by fans who voted on Pro Bowls, otherwise the winningest team in the NFL would have sent more players to these popularity contests.

This thread would be so much simpler if it was just " which Patriot would you like to bring back from the Brady era?" And the answer is ........

Randy Moss.

If not for that coke fiend playing in the media capital of the world Tipp would have been recognized as the best LB of his era.

I dunno man. My homerism has limits. LT is at another level.
