Stephen A Smith goes off on rant against Drake Maye

I honestly didn't know what show Cam was on either. People don't watch ESPN like they used to. And who's the blonde sharmuta?

Aren't they on in the morning? I would NEVER watch that **** in the morning. I'll watch some of ESPN in the evening, PTI and such, but the MORNING?

I like Stephen A. He's hamming it up acting upset that Maye didn't know his show, and he knows the Liar part is harmless, just his schtick which he can get away with. At the end of the day he's pretty fair and he gives Drake his due. Cam, on the other hand is not looking good.

First off Cam has been doing everything he could to discredit Drake Maye which kind of sucks because Maye grew up idolizing him but the dumber thing is Maye’s “I don’t know what show they’re on” comment wasn’t that bad in context. Somehow Stephen A spun this into an attack on sports media and disloyalty to athletes or something.

No one has done more damage to the sports media landscape than Stephen A Smith.



On the positive side, everyone hates us again so it is good to be back.

Fools gold is kind of headline grabbing but the actual content of what he said was that they're a good team but record is inflated because they played so many bad teams so he's not buying them as a Super Bowl contender right now. I don't think that's outlandish. It's not like he said they suck and just got lucky, which would be over the top.

Drake might very well not have known that Cam was on first take. He definitely knows who Stephen A is and that First Take is a show though. He doesn't live under a rock. But Cam is relatively new to that show so hardly absurd that an athlete wouldn't know that he's on the show like Stephen A got in his feelings about.

Newton used the word "falsetto" in his description of the Patriots, which should've ended his broadcast career right then and there.

Smith can't open his mouth without shouting.

These guys are clowns and Cam even dresses like one.

He called Drake a liar, disparaged Andy's question by the lying expedient of of deliberately misrepresenting it, and implied that there was a racial dimension to the entire colloquy, which there demonstrably was not. The guy is an *******, a blowhard, and at times a dangerous demagogue, and anyone who doesn't see that might reasonably be suspected of similar shortcomings.

Did you see the crowd? Stephen A shouts and they roar. So he shouts more nonsense, and gets more roaring. It's a crazy self reinforcing loop.

Actual words and language as a whole becomes meaningless at that point.

I don't have an issue with Newton saying the Patriots are fools gold. He is entitled to his opinion and the Patriots do need to prove themselves somewhat.

That said, Maye was honest and probably does not know what show Newton is on. He doesn't strike me as the type of guy affected by outside noise.

I don't think Newton deserves to be treated as if if God's gift to football or something. The first thing I think of when his name comes up is not jumping on a loose ball in the SB. That's my lasting memory of him. As time goes on, he will be largely forgotten when it comes to NFL history. So SAS needs to chill.

I didn't know about this until it came up on my sports Twitter feed. I watch Get Up on Mondays and after major sports events. I tried First Take, but couldn't take that overblown blowhard and his hype. And calling someone a liar on national TV is pretty strong stuff. Maye's next response should be that he doesn't know who Stephen A is.
