* High levels of success in multiple tenures as OC.
* OC during a 16-0 season with the team setting unbelievable offensive records.
* Coached multiple QBs to high levels of success. Obviously Brady but now Maye and let's not forget guys like Cassel.
* Coordinator Success now spanning close to 20 years in a league that is very different from where it was when he first started as an OC.

NEM approved.

On a serious note, though, I still think McDaniels' greatest achievement was turning Matt Cassel, possibly the greenest QB in NFL history, into a guy who was playing like a top-5 QB at the end of the season.

Interesting conversation. At first I thought Joe Gibbs would be up at the top with his work in SD but he wasn't an OC for nearly as long as Josh was.

NEM had an unnatural hatred of Charlie Weiss! He was a character and slightly insane.

He is no longer with us.

Can't argue with McDaniels success, lets only hope he heeds Mr. Spock's advice and realizes that being an Offensive Coordinator is his next best destiny, anything else would be a waste.

Spags is his closest competition and I think actually has more coordinator rings with 4. Josh has 6 rings but 3 as a coaching assistant/position coach and 3 as coordinator. Obviously also has the 07/17 appearances and undefeated regular season on his resume too.

I'm taking Josh but it's pretty close.

Edit: obviously Romeo and Weis have 3 as well and I'm guessing a couple others too from Washington, Pitt, San Fran, or somewhere like that. But Josh has a ton of solid tie breakers and I don't feel like looking them all up lol.

if I am an owner with a young developing qb either now or in the future, I hire a gm, coach and tell them their OC WILL be Josh for at least a couple of years. He will get paid as much as the head coach, or even more if he won’t come otherwise.

I guess this is also “AWOM” (A Weis Old Man) approved.

For those who weren’t 20 years ago, here is my synopsis of most of his posts (may he rest in peace):
Slant passes!
In cuts!

Yup qb development /offense is more impactful

If BB and Brady are the GOATs of their positions (and don't let BB's recent stupidity affect the truth)
Then JMD (and Scar) should also get their rightful flowers for their roles in the greatest dynasty in football history.

There were a lot more DC's during that time than OC's - and I think what we realize now is that BB was devising the defense schemes and plays - and allowing the play caller to operate the system. But on O - it was Brady & JMD (and BOB for a moment)

some weren’t enamoured about his hire. Loved it then, love it now. West coast O…. Pfft

I liked NEM, like you posted he was a real character who couldn't control himself.
