Was doing some googling and stumbled upon this. It's a good read about the Erhardt-Perkins system which obviously was a staple of our offense for 24 years followed by one year off and now looks like it will be here for a very long time to come.

Remember when everyone said it was too complicated and that we had to get rid of it because it was too hard for the modern day kids. Such short sighted logic. And thank God wisdom prevailed and we brought it back with Josh!

Opposing defenses will struggle for at least another decade trying to keep up with the amoeba offense.

I'll admit, I was getting tired of the "Brady" offense, but at least this offense has an identity "Erhardt-Perkins" and history. Most offenses in the NFL try to copy each other and look like the same college offense.

Same thing on defense unfortunately around the NFL. They are all built the same and run the same formations.

Excellent point it puts more stress on the opposition that they have to prepare for a deep and complicated offense that is not widely used.

Years and years ago, I stumbled upon some allegedly old basic playbooks from the Pats. This one from 2004.
Yep, that's been floating around surprisingly not too long after that season.

Also, it shows "Omaha" which I've heard Tom saying way before Peyton made it a thing.

We'll be calling this the Erhardt-Perkins-McDaniels soon enough. He's added a ton to that playbook over the last couple of decades.

That he has. I kinda wanted a different direction for Maye instead of McD, but man...I am really happy. His play calling has changed, not so many draws on 3rd and 15. Think that has a lot to do with Maye. But it is awesome to see it developing.

Also, it's funny how teams complained that the Pats were "stealing signals", when their entire playbook was available for anyone to read on the internet LOL.

He did sneak in the toss on 3rd and 10 to Henderson. Of course he picked it up.

The dreaded draws on 3rd down. Many OC's do this around the league, but the most famous OC that took a lot of **** for this was Jason Garrett in Dallas.

Offensive systems aren't static. The way we ran it with Brady was very complex. We've scene situations this year where Maye and the receiver both had different reads on what they should do when faced with a situation (one happened last week). But you absolutely can simplify the system.

Both us and the Bills use the EP. I doubt most would say we have the same offense though.

I think that, given the Patriots' infamous history with drafting and developing receivers, it is certainly worth questioning what role the choice of the EP system played in it. I know at least some players couldn't pick it up (e.g., Ochocinco).

We've been using this offense from 1976 to 1982, 1993-1996, 2000-2023, 2025.

A total of 36 years since 1976.

More than anything else the thing that pisses me off about Spygate is how it wasn't even about stealing signals, it was about where our cameraman was. It took me years to learn that because the sports media is so corrupt and Pats-hating. And non-Patriots fans? Forget about it, they have no clue.

I think it has to do with not being well ahead of the opponent as in the Brady years. You know if we're up 13, you'll see it again.

You have to think McDaniels modified that Brady Jedi mind trick Offense some. Because Brady could lead you up and down the football field with lengthy prolonged drives. This one with Drake Maye is hitting you with Big Chunk plays plus Maye has wheels...I don't mind having an RPO QB it's an advantage.
