With Tua stats in 2023 and 2024, not sure they felt they had a choice on doing that extension in 2024. Though I do remember it didn't seem like the team really was convinced on him. rightfully so.
I would have tried to trade Tua coming off his big year but his history of concussions and needed contract probably made that impossible. The fact his good stats were based on great talent and a 1 read system did not help.

Miami has to clean house after this year and if there is a QB is worth a first-round pick they will take one and in 2027 Tua will become Kirk Cousins.

Having the Jets and Dolphins in QB purgatory and needing rebuilds added to the Bills failure to build around Allen has left the door open for Drake Maye to make us perennial Division champs. It is Pats or Bills in the division for the foreseeable future.

Fair enough. I get not wanting to lose an asset for nothing but I don't see Tua as a significant asset and given the injury history and contract I can't see the Dolphins getting anything significant back in a trade. The chance of getting say a second or third is not worth the risk of not finding a trade partner and being stuck with the contract. As soon as they draft a QB the whole league knows Tua is a lame duck and the dolphins lose leverage in negotiations.

But as you say in the last paragraph, not our problem. Two team race for the foreseeable future.
