I respectfully disagree, Ken.

It is almost never right to fire a coach in the middle of a season. Why? Because the middle of a season is a very bad time to hire a new head coach. The only ones available are internal promotions from within your organization or coaches who are out of football.

But if you hire an Interim Head Coach you put yourself in an impossible situation. Either he does well and re-builds the team, in which case you are under pressure to appoint him as a permanent Head Coach and there will be division if he doesn't get the job, or he takes the organization further downhill.

When I see a coach fired mid-season, I see an organization that puts emotion above logic.

(Note: When I said "almost never", it's clear that when a coach is behaving badly and there is a complete breakdown of relationships he has to go. Example: Urban Meyer in Jacksonville.)
Oh, I agree in principle with what you say. But this is currently a dysfunctional organization who would much rather pull the trigger on an inevitable decision than endure a week of non-stop Vrabel talk.

Exactly, Ken.

It's not an accident that the most recent example of firing a coach mid-season was the Jets firing Saleh -- the most dysfunctional organization of them all.

It's like those nitwits on WEEI who, after the Steelers loss (I'm quoting here) said "I don't know what they should do, but they should do something". So the Titans fire their coach just so that people can say "at least they did something".

I think we need to get back to talking about the game at this point. You know we WILL be playing a game again this Sunday. I know the tendency will be to think this will be a walkover. We are playing a bad team with a weak roster, who will likely be missing their top offensive threat (Ridley) and how can we possibly lose?

Well, we shouldn't, but that doesn't mean we can't. That horrible team from last year, didn't look much different from this one to teams coming into Foxboro either. Yet that team managed to win 4 games and play 10 others to one score games. And in a one score game anything can happen. A bad call, a bad bounce, a TO, a defensive score, etc

It is a 3rd straight road game. I wonder about teams who get 3 straight road games and their results. Ted Johnson's remarks about the negative effects of road games and the cumulative effects struck a chord with me. It rang true. So, what are the stats of teams with 3 road games in a row. How many win all 3.

Meanwhile I'd love some posts about the Titans and their team. I know we will have to face the best DT in the league this week. How do you think we will manage to control that issue?

Patriots d in 2nd half this year

vs oak - 13 pa. I think this game was an outlier in many areas though
Vs mia- 6 pa
Vs pit - 7 pa
Vs car - 7 pa
Vs buffalo - 17 pa
Vs no - 3 pa

Other than Josh Allen understandably breaking through eventually and the week 1 game where pretty much everything was off with the team theyve been spectacular after the half.

I think if the Patriots take can of business and cut down the turnovers, mistakes and penalties they can take beat of the Tennessee Titans who are in disarray right now. It would be a good time to try to get the running game going and to commit to Henderson being their lead back.

Interesting? He's ruled out?
He left the game with a hammy injury and according to the now former coach couldn’t run after sustaining the injury.

I hate this game now Callahan has been fired, i think it's gone from a blowout multiple score games to a potentially tricky one.

There's a long track record of teams raising their level in the first game after a coach has been fired mid season, a lot of them actually win despite being an awful team and a huge underdog.

Just win the game, any win will do me.

I agree, but genuine question: How many of those teams had a rookie QB? Would you happen to know?

Looks the David Carr behind that Houston Invisible O-Line.

The snaps from Center are not clean either; Vrabel should see that. Also Cam Ward is kind of careless with the football: Barmore and Williams are going to feast.

Took a peak at their Board this morning. Apparently, we're their "Superbowl".

Interesting how they saw Vrabel as leaving the Titans and not getting fired.

God I want a 50-burger on them so bad.
Well, if Amy wants it ...

All the Patriots need to do is stamp out their first drive with a 3 and out, or string a couple of series together on offense, to completely nullify the initial amped crowd/team. If they do that, the Titans (and fans) will fold quickly.

If they don't, it could be a long afternoon.
