The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

I honestly thought that Belichick's resume' and track record was going to make UNC desirable place for transfers and recruits, primarily because they would see it as a road to the pro's. Instead he's turned the program and his reputation into a complete joke and no one is going to want anything to do with him or that program. Right now Drake Maye is their best recruiting tool and Belichick won't let UNC talk him up because he has a personal beef with the Patriots. That's disgraceful, the University should fire him right now.
If the parents are involved and it sounds like they are then his or Lombardi's or both their seats might be warming up already.

Involvement from donors and high-rollin' alumni is what you need to watch for. Two-three more lopsided blowouts and an empty home stadium might grease the skids. It's a very, very sad situation.

Not sure if posted previously:

Bill Belichick and the unaccountable band of cronies and flunkies that followed him to North Carolina have failed to grasp one fundamental principle of college sports.

Even for the most successful coach in the history of the NFL, the program and the players always come first.

That means you don’t bring the petty feuds that followed you from the New England Patriots into the building. It means you don’t fly off to Nantucket with your girlfriend during the bye week when your team is failing on practically every front. It means that when you gut a roster from the previous regime to bring in your own people, you better actually upgrade the talent instead of throwing darts at the transfer portal like it doesn’t matter because you don’t believe the competition is worthy of trading X for O with your genius.

Belichick has failed on every account because those around him either don’t understand the job or don’t take it seriously, and as a result they have reached the midway point of the season as one of the biggest laughingstocks in the recent history of the sport.

Vrabel made it clear that's not true and said Babybill is always welcome there. Bill's a liar.
The guy is behaving the way delusional people behave. He needs to paint himself as the victim and justify his actions so he invents a scenario where the Patriots have banned him. In his mind, his made up scenario becomes real so he is justified in banning them in return.

Of course, it's all a delusion. Nobody banned him from anywhere.
More likely he's delusional.
I made my above post before I read this one. We've clearly come to the same conclusion.

I think we all had this kind of optimism bias. We all saw the great teams of the Brady Era and Bill's role in that. We even came up with the acronym IBWT to explain away some of the more baffling things he did. Some are still so focused on those times that they refuse to acknowledge anything after those times.

Yet in hindsight we should not have been so blindly optimistic. We saw Brady depart with no real plan to develop a successor. We saw the Cam Newton year. We saw what happened to Mac Jones after Josh left the building and Bill installed the MP/JJ/sons coaching train wreck. We saw Bill undermine his DC, a player he drafted and coached as a player and trained as a coach, because he wanted his son to have the job. We saw him make questionable choices in his dating life. We saw him choose to partner with Fat Mike and use a hype-laden pitch to get them plus three of their sons set up in UNC.

All of this had a certain stench to it. Now it's full blown rotten eggs. It stinks to the high hills.

From the people I talk to who would know, a lot better than you or I would, the media stuff coming out lately is coming from a WRs parents.

Take that information for what it's worth. Doesn't mean what they're leaking is incorrect.

Also LETS GIVE IT UP FOR PAGE 304 of the Schizo Thread!

I think it’s a sad situation for the players at UNC. Those kids, even if brought in by Bill, have been subject to a clown show of epic proportions. Nepotism, control and ego are the top priorities not the players or their future.

I don’t feel sad for Bill because he did all of this to himself. He is a selfish prick collecting a huge paycheck to flaunt Bunny around on the sidelines and overall be a garbage coach. His legacy has been in decline for years, and now the nail is being drilled into the coffin.

So one of ponytail's guys is the fall guy for all UNC's failures.

Non-paywalled link:

So not only do we have the WRAL report published, but also now confirmation that one of its main allegations is true.

More than a dumpster fire, this is a **** storm!

Cris Carter would be proud.

It seems this is Bill and Mike's way to resolve this situation, but it may not be enough.

It makes one wonder if the higher-ups at UNC Athletics aren't going to ask for more.

The program is such a shambles, it would not surprise me if Fat Mike is next to take the fall.

So much of this is a big nothing burger, a washed coach with a massive ego can't accept when it's over and has a girlfriend too young for him and it's a bit creepy.

Talk of destroying legacies ect, destroying your legacy is Russell Wilsoning yourself from the HOF, Bill is still going to the HOF and still going to be one of the greats because everything is subjective it always comes down to wins, losses and championships and yeah he had Brady but Walsh had Montana and Reid had Mahomes ect, once we're past the moment it'll just be a cliff note of his career like it it'll be remember how sad and weird that got at the end.

The Brady vs Belichick argument was always a dumb one anyway, no coach can ever be more important than a top 5 QB.

Bills biggest problem is he is an A-hole who treats people like dirt so everyone is itching and reveling in burying him and the fact he still can't humble himself in his worst moments with the Patriots and self reflect on his flaws and love of his buddies being on his staff in key roles.

My biggest surprise is why anyone thought this wouldn't be a disaster, washed Bill and his band of cronies going down to historically bad football program UNC with no knowledge of college football.

I've stayed out of the BB thread because it's just awful, but you hit the nail on the head, bud.

This is one of the two reporters who did the WRAL story and he literally says "So many of these people I met working on this story, that was the first thing out of their mouth" referring to the story's first quote, "It's an unstructured mess. There's no culture, no organization. It's a complete disaster.". Later in the video he talks about how he ran the article through several layers of UNC Athletics to get feedback and got no real pushback at all. So, in short, the article is pretty much on target.

The reporter also says he doesn't blame UNC for swinging for the fences, but in hindsight they should have done more due diligence to see if Bill was "dialed in to the point he needed to be" with the main fault being "poor communication at all levels".

He said reports still praise Bill as "still having it" as a coach, but the lack of communication and the poor organizational structure minimizes its impact. He says that there is "isolation" between Bill and the players, and even between Bill and senior UNC Athletics leaders.

He also said the main message he got from senior UNC Athletics people he spoke to at length was that Bill needed to accept the help others are offering him. The implication to me is that so far, he hasn't.

Overall it seems UNC Athletics hopes this article prompts Bill to change his ways, but the reporter pointed out some of the "petty" things Bill has recently done to suggest that he isn't showing much willingness to accept input from others.

IMO this subtle back-and-forth via the media isn't going to work. UNC Athletics needs to be much more involved. They need to sit down with him and go through his schedule and make sure he's putting in the time to do the things this article says he doesn't do, such as have more 1-1 time with players. They need to come up with a plan to address the divide between the recruits and the portal guys. Just punishing one coach who handed out too many tickets isn't going to fix the situation.

I couldn't care less about North Carolina football. Unless they're playing Miami, and then it's 'how much should they win by'.
Some of you guys seem to care a lot.

I never thought I'd lose respect for BB, but this clown show has done it, I'm embarrassed for him.

For me, I haven't lost respect for what Bill did during most of the Brady Era, although I do question some of his late-period actions more than I used to. However I have lost respect for the majority of things he did in the Post-Brady Era.

Note that losing respect isn't the same thing as hating, regardless of how much a certain ******* poster like to equate the two. Honestly, I can't think of anyone in sports that I hate. The closest anyone comes to it is players who deliberately try to or succeed at injuring other players such as Jack Tatum, Bernard Pollard and Ndamukong Suh. Even these guys I don't hate, I just have zero respect for them. Ok, upon further reflection I truly hate Tatum. That scumbag crippled another person for life for no good reason. But that's the level it has to rise to for me to hate anyone.

Some of you guys seem to care a lot.

Their coach was in our lives several times a week during the football season for twenty years. We talked about him with our friends. We defended him when fans of other teams in our lives went after him. We're truly puzzled how such a guy who seemed to be so smart and decisive in his prime has acted so stupidly and indifferently in his decline. So, yeah, we care a lot. Good luck with the Miami thing, may it bring you joy.
