It was possibly age-related but not necessarily. For one thing, a run of 20 years was unprecedented but it had to end, and those endings don't last just a couple of years. They had lost their best coaches, scouts, front office staff, and trusted contacts. The best players broke down or moved on, the egos of BB-TB-RK went in different directions, and luck ran out. When multiple factors like these occur in tandem, some of it out of BB's control, it's over. Suddenly none of his moves were working out. Nobody can push every correct button and have lady luck by his side forever. It's still amazing to me that they squeezed out #6 and went 12-4 the next year before flaming out to the Titans and Brady bolting.
All good points. If he only had the self-awareness to realize he needed other talented people around him, and once he wasn't able to keep them, maybe it was time to do something else with his life instead of trashing his legacy. Instead we got the Cam Newton season, the MP/JJ/sons season, the BoB/Mayo season, and now the UNC Era.
