I truly believe it has so much to do with with the game planning.. we've seen this from Josh over the years.. one game it's this guy, the next game it's another guy. For example rham had the big game week 2, then Henry had a big game week 3.. Hopefully it's pop who can finally break out this funk he's in.
Not holding my breath on that one.

The still photo shows the ball hitting Douglases hands. He still had to complete the catch and secure the ball.

But it was too late because the Steelers were at the 1st down marker bu that time.

These still photos are deceiving. The Welker non catch in the Super Bowl. Look at him he dropped it. Cut him for costing NE a Super Bowl. It's always the same jumping to extremes.

Here is a screen grab of when Douglas the ball and pulls down. The closest defender is still about yard away from him. Even catching the ball where he caught it. He had time and cushion to lean forward for the first down. Sure he might have got hit pretty good, but he could have gotten the first down even where he caught it. But he went backwards.

You are not representing the play the way it actually happened.

Rob you got it: Pop knew he was going get a Tackle Sandwich that's why he went backwards. He was trying to avoid the Big Hit: that explains him sucking over the middle. We need a New Slot Receiver: I would be Shocked if Efton Chism doesn't suit up on Sunday. Pop Douglas is Charmin soft.

NFL players run 5 second 40 yard dashes.

You are talking about 5 yards.

Then why did Douglas stop?

Because he wanted to give Maye a clean target.

Divide 5 yards into 40 yards and you get 8.

So, even a 8 second 40 yard dash divided by 8 = 1 second. Douglas had no chance because the Steeler DBs were closing so fast.

Here is a screenshot of the field where the ball was already in the air. You can see there isn't a receiver within five yards of Douglas. If he stopped short of the sticks to give Maye a clean target, I am calling for Douglas to be cut. Douglas couldn't be more open on a fourth and one with the game on the line standing around the sticks if he tried. This crap coverage by the Steelers to leave Douglas so open like that.

If Douglas stopped to give Maye a clean target but didn't think he would have a clean target two feet farther down the field, you are making a strong case to bench Douglas. That is ridiculous. Again, when he stopped there wasn't a defender within five yards of him.
Your pic shows the ball just touching Douglass's hands.

He still had to

1 - complete the catch.
2 - secure the ball.

But those key elements in a catch don't take any time at all.
And you can use whatever math you want, but the difference in that ball traveling from one spot to another spot two feet farther down the field would be a small fraction of a second that probably registered by the human eye.

Its the same math that you use.

And if he actually ran the proper route, none of this would matter. He was wide open and ran too shallow of a route. That is on him.

I am sure Vrabel and McDaniels saw that Frame or Still: probably made them sick to their stomachs. After that play they can't have much fate in Pop Douglas going forward. Wouldn't shock me if He sees some Inactives to light a fire under His @ss.

We already covered that.

The ball would have been intercepted.

We could blame Mayo.

Wolfe and Groh drafted Douglas too.

Let's be clear Pop Douglas didn't cost us this game: we know who did. That said Pop's football instincts leaves a lot to desired.

Really?!? I didn't know Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four played safety for the Steelers.

There was literally 0% chance of that ball being intercepted where he was unless Douglas tipped the ball into one of the defender hands. But there an almost certainty it would have been intercepted if Douglas was two feet farther down the field? And you claim it would have been the safety who was covering the middle of the field who would have intercepted it and not the guy who was playing the over coverage in front of Douglas.

Stop it. Just stop it. It wouldn't have been intercepted. Douglas was wide open. He would have been wide open two feet farther down the field.

Stop feeding the trolls.

And it's also on-brand. Pop Douglas running terrible routes is something that's been noted over and over going back 2 seasons now.

The hope from the believers I imagine, other than 'zomg he caught 60 catches that one year' (The Bourne Axiom, we'll call it going forward), is that he would, you know, *improve*.

Boutte improved. Quite a bit, actually. You can't blame everything on Troy Brown as WR Coach.

Unless there was some sort of invisible black hole on the field, altering the gravity of the football, there was a 0% chance of that pass being intercepted.

He just needed to duck his head and lean forward and I think he would have had it. Of course there is no guarantee that even if he made it that they would have scored to tie it up and win it in overtime.
Hopefully the WR coach will teach him and he will learn from it.
Maybe Hollins would have been a better choice for this play.

Once in a great while, you have a coherent thought.

No, its Pops fault.

He would have scored a TD to tie.

Of course.

Douglas forgot all he knows about playing WR. All 5 - 8 of him should have run up to the 6 - 0 Pitt DB.
