Vrabel's PostGame Presser vs Raiders

My post-game presser:

"We weren't good enough, period. In everything. Not enough energy, not enough intensity, not enough focus. Not good enough on execution. Not consistent enough. Not good enough at the beginning of each half, not good enough at the end of each half. Not good enough on offense, defense, or special teams. Not good enough on complementary or situational football. Not good enough on play calling, personnel alignment, adjustments, or time management. Not good enough.

Next question."

well, he's not lying...

all in all I'd rather have a game like this than the cinderellas ball we started with last year... where we turned into a pumpkin in week 2...

There must be a school where coaches learn to say absolutely nothing meaningful in press conferences

What would you have liked him to say?

Something along the lines of...

Which in coach speak is pretty much what he said.

What would you have liked him to say?
A complete breakdown of the All-22 position by position? Or is that asking too much? /s

Lol, no matter what he says it will never be good enough, detailed enough...

He's doing his duty of speaking with the media, but like almost every coach in the history of sports, they answer the questions with as little info as they can, and underneath it all is a message for the team without losing the locker room. This is the way, and won't ever change.

If Vrabel body slammed Volin during the presser, I'd consider the season a success

I was just trying to have little fun...Obviously he can not say much.
We have heard it all before including BB's favorite
-"We just did not make enough plays"
- I have to do a better job of coaching"
-"Have to look at the film"
-We are focusing on Miami, they are a great team and we will have to play our best to be competitive"

I did find it interesting that, at least from what I listened to, he did not really comment on coaching much. He really put it on the players much more so. Calling out leadership, effort, "wanting to work" etc. He even crapped on Baringer on the 4th down saying "I would've liked a better punt." I think that's a pretty big difference between him and how BB always seemed to just point to coaching, at least in the last few years.

I found it a little strange that he mentioned players who wanted to be here more than once. Maybe I am reading into that statement or is that a message to some of the team?

I’m going off memory, but I’m pretty sure I heard him say something like “we gotta coach it better, we gotta call it better”. I think he spread the blame equitably.

I’m starting to think White is on very thin ice.

To be fair, this is also a task of the journalists. Sports journalists are the absolute worst at questions. "buhhhhh welp um, how did the loss feel? How did Dwakey-Dwake do? Mum mum me have cookies now?" - truly braindead questioning.

For example:

"When a defense is choosing to give you zone all day, as the Raiders played man for only a single snap, and you're struggling to take advantage of it, what are you doing in that moment - as head coach - to overcome that hurdle?"

"With your first game in the rearview, how differently did your role play out today than your time in Tennessee? Do you find yourself having to pay more attention to any side of the ball? Were you more hands off or did you feel like you were in constant dialogue with your playcallers?" (If i'm a good journalist, I do research into his time in Tenn., watch games to see if his mannerisms were different, and offer concrete examples, study OSU tape/articles/interviews)

"What is the expectation for such a fresh roster to intake half-time adjustments? Do you have to limit the scope of those adjustments? The number of adjustments? What's the process for that?" (Again, i'd want to research into his time at Tenn to see how consistently those teams adjusted at half, take note of age of roster/QB experience, and have a chance at being more specific here)

"In your experience as a player on the defensive side of the ball, what goes through your head when your opponent is doing alright with pass-blocking, but struggling with run blocking? Does it change your technique? Are you more likely to tee-off on specific tells? How do you leverage that knowledge as a coach? And what does that mean for this week of practice?" (Scour old interview tape from him as a player, look at his tape from OSU, and more)

I dunno. I get you typically can only get one question. May as well dedicate a week of study to asking the right question. Work on making question succinct.

He did mention coaching but I just felt like he pointed much more towards the players than you really ever saw with BB in recent years.
