It's easy, and only takes a few moments.Thank you for the memory refresh. They didn't trade him, he was signed to an a poison pill offer sheet the Pats felt too risky to match. Martin could've opted out after the 1998 season and sign elsewhere while the Pats wouldn't receive any compensation. Although I absolutely hated it, it had to happen for Belichick and Brady to land there. It's the butterfly effect. If the Pats had Martin, they would've had a better record than 1-3 against the Parcells/Martin combo. Bledsoe may not of split his thumb against the Dolphins and find a way to stay on top of the AFCE. Assuming they have Martin, do they trade up a few spots and take Randy Moss or Vonnie Holliday in 1998? Or do they stick with their pick and take Tebucky Jones?
That’s a good point. Some of the other roster pruning (Bourne and Baker) could be that also.It suggests this is about making room for others to step up so that next year's loss of Dugger isn't as impactful.
FIFYDroolingveteransvegetables is a worse look.
Ahhh NEM.
Truly the most unhinged poster I can recall.
One of the only ones I can recall thinking “this person likely has legit mental problems”.
If the advancements in technology for helmets is not enough, then that player should seriously reconsider whether they should take the field.Drooling veterans is a worse look.
Me eitherI’ve been here 20 years and I don’t remember him.
Dropkickflutie was nutsAhhh NEM.

Yes, he is very good at that.Based on watching it he has perfected the "run right into em" move
Players get injured Woozy I don't like the move: Peppers is a very good player. Do we have a replacement of his caliber on the Roster?? I don't think so and neither should you.Dugger’s been pretty durable until last season and still played 13 games, mostly playing through injury.
I think he’ll be playing more LB and in the box SS than roaming deep as a free safety… but I could be wrong. Hawkins is not the answer on defense.
Dugger was coming off surgery, he missed reps early in the offseason. I don’t put too much on his playing with the last group in preseason, he needed the reps and to learn the new scheme.
On a per game basis Dugger has led the Pat’s in solo tackles every season since he arrived. He’s a great player and hopefully hasn’t lost a step. The release of Peppers says more to me about Dugg’s health and recent practice’s than anything else.
Looks like you guys joined in 2007 and 2008; NEM really crashed and burned at the end of 2006 IIRC. Believe me, you would remember him.Me either
I absolutely enjoyed NEM's rantings and alternate reality diatribes. I only wish this site was able to save some of NEM's greatest hits so we all might enjoy his classics once again. The entertainment value was next level and those who took him too seriously failed to appreciate the brilliance of his insanity.Ahhh NEM.

Like some have already speculated, they seemed to have wanted to keep only one between Peppers and Dugger. We now know that they tried to trade both but. They clearly wanted to keep Peppers over Dugger since they tried to trade Dugger first. Since they failed to trade both they decided to cut the easiest salary wise.A scheme issue but more talent than some who stayed. Internal uncertainty could explain the timing. A little curious that they kept Dugger who also doesn’t fit.
I like Bentley. I appreciate what he did here. He played hard and did his job.
That being said... He got hurt 12 months ago, with an injury that regular people with regular bodies with regular HC can heal within 12 months even in the most extreme cases. Yet no one has come knocking. This to me is a bit of, dare i say it, sour grapes that he wasn't resigned. And i will also add, i wouldn't consider Bentley an authority on what great play is or isn't.
In the big picture it's likely Dugger and peppers wouldn't be here past this season. I sure did see like many peppers being out right cut right now. I agree with your post though.Like some have already speculated, they seemed to have wanted to keep only one between Peppers and Dugger. We now know that they tried to trade both but. Rant & alternate reality ok; there are a lot of disturbed opinions here sometimes & they add flavor ….but the repetition & and the infuriated bulldog (never-let-go) hatred of particular coaches /schemes was a bit much.I absolutely enjoyed NEM's rantings and alternate reality diatribes.
