The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

1) There’s no shame in being team manager. They probably spend more time with the coach than any of the players.

2) I was a wide receiver.

3) You’re nothing special. You’re not the only one here that played organized ball. You’re just the only one who thinks it gives you some sort of special insight.
Someone should tell Wozzy that handling the jockstraps doesn’t give him superior football knowledge

I still don't understand how the same guy that they prop up as being the almighty GOAT coach would let himself get cuked just because the owner sprinkled the word "collaboration" around.

If Wolf et al really had the juice and as the GOAT he knew he needed total control to get the kind of team he wanted, the minute he realized all that was the time to resign. It makes no sense for him to hang around and go down with the ship, yet that's what he did.

The whole idea that he did the MP, JJ and Sons thing just to get fired is throwing the baby out with the bath water, the baby being his legacy and his future hiring prospects.

The story that makes far more sense is that he just stopped giving a damn. That story line connects directly with the overpaid bunny hunter and all his various hangers-on grifting at a middle-of-the-pack college football team.
****ed is strong and offensive. That's not the right term or close to what happened.

I don't think there was any kind of coup or anything salacious but after (probably even a little before too) Casserio and Brady were gone the Krafts definitely started getting aware of the end and planning contingency which includes the obvious Mayo stuff (presumably McD before that) but also to a tiny extent Jonathan/Glazer and whatever small things we might not even know. But even then I think he got to pick his guys in Groh and Wolf but I think they were hired to be more Kraft employees where everyone else prior were more "BB employees who got paid by Kraft".

And at the time you don't make huge case of it you go a long to get a long because you're 20 years in and the alternative is you blow it up or something and he was never doing that. And then he also just figured he can just coach his way through it like he had with whatever other things came up during the run like transitions from Pioli to Reiss to Casserio or whatever.

Because the model stopped working. Bill was an anomaly and it was becoming obvious that the rest of the league had finally evolved past Bill's method of working the post free agency era and Bill had no interest in giving it up so that he could compete and having a sophisticated personnel department.

Also results in the NFL tend tolag

It worked from 2000-2013/14. The great drafting and free agencies from 09-14 set the table for the 14-18 run. But even by like 2018 people were saying "you know the Patriots aren't all that deep and a lot of their drafts recently had kinda flopped. It just kept compounding for years without a correction until it was unsustainable.

You don't watch someone be unable to competently draft and restock the team from 2015-2023 and say "yeah we should keep driving into this ditch".

Vrabel is a modern coach, he's never going to subscribe to that model because it's archaic and he understands what the teams he's competing with have in place.

Great post.

Not really, the first definition from Google's dictionary is "a weak or servile man".

That fits the story line I was describing in my post.

Given where the story line has gone since, perhaps "simp" fits better these days?

Got it little fan

I didn’t claim to be special. I also didn’t suggest many of you didn’t play just football… but organized sports in general. The way you bob the QB’s knob and disrespect all the other players and coaches who contributed it’s clear you are missing something. Maybe you had too many collisions.

Reread what I said you never provided evidence of a notice you didn’t do it. Also notice I showed you Kraft’s own words regarding why he fired Bill in regards to control while you hide behind another statement Kraft made.

Again show me one decision Bill was forced into
This ^ is barely legible English, I provided the words of the two people most relevant… Bob and Bill.

Both owner and coach said BB gave up total control at the end of 2020 and start of 2021.

Here’s Bob saying it in 2021:

Bob tried to walk that back this year, but he’s been lying ever since it ended. He also said he had nothing to do with the hit piece documentary he produced… laughable.

Bob said he took back personnel, Bill said he no longer had total control of personnel the last four years in New England.

Here’s Bill saying it:

How much more proof do you need?

I’ll laugh if his team goes 4-8 and the grifter dumps him

Except if it’s Mac Jones. Then a 47-17 ass smashing in the playoffs is 100% his fault cause it’s not a team game if he is the QB, that logic only applies to Brady. Mac Jones lost that game all by himself. It’s all on him cause we all know he gave up those touchdowns on every single drive.

How dare that guy make your poor hoodied hero look bad

Once again you have provided zero evidence that Belichick was ever stopped from making a single decision. You also pick and choose what you want from Kraft and ignore things he said that were inconvenient for you you. You also ignore the years of bad drafts and free agencies before the "collaboration" you like to hide behind.

Proving once again that you will just say whatever feels good and ignore basic reality. Btw I might be too qualified to talk with you on this since I played at higher levels than Pop Warner

You’re a real athletic supporter.
Far more than you. I've played sports my whole life, played football at higher levels than you, and still contribute and get paid in collegiate football as a side gig.

I know you think riding the bench in pop warner so you could sniff jocks after the game gives you some level of authority in these discussions, but it's not that impressive to most people.

True story: I knew a guy who was a grad assistant for a college team who was developing football analytics. He would meet with the coach every Thursday for an hour to discuss the upcoming game. The grad assistant would meet with me beforehand because he knew I love football (and I work in analytics) and run his presentation by me. We'd bat around ideas and go back and forth. It was fun.

So I was the unpaid assistant of an unpaid assistant.... but it was Big 10 football (albeit not one of the marquee teams) so we're talking very high level competition.

How do you guys still know so little about the game?

It's puffed btw

Points per game comparisons are meaningless as I already explained to you many times.

Fact: Bill needed Brady a lot more than the other way around. Brady didn't need Bill all that much, as he won a SB without him. Bill is .426 post Brady and out of the NFL. That's got him all hot and bothered and that's why he's whining like a little ***** now about owners sons being in his way.

Patriots average annual defensive rank from 2020-2022 based on PPG was 6.6. What did that get Bill? A watered down 7th seed playoff blowout.

Throughout his HC career without the GOAT, those defensive PPG average was 11.1. This accounted for a single home playoff victory against the Statue. Bravo.

I guess TB12 was a product of the system, he could only win under the system.

With a predicted 7 wins, don't be surprised if UNC plays at Fenway this December.

The Athletic predicted that UNC will finish the season exactly where it was last season, at the Fenway Bowl. They predicted that the Tar Heels would play against Navy in that game.

Go Navy!
