The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

No. Just no.

Literally more than half of all NCAA teams make a bowl game. No one will be impressed when UNC goes to the Fenway Bowl or Duke's Mayo Bowl.

Belichick either makes the playoffs or he's a complete failure.
I don't think it's quite that black and white. There is a scenario where he has just enough success to go out quietly without it being a complete failure but yes ultimately his success will mostly be determined by his ability to take them to the playoffs in the next few years.

Short of the playoffs I don't think it would be some Fenway bowl or something that matters instead I think maybe his draft results could save him. If he falls short of the playoffs but develops some NFL talent then maybe he manages to middle it. But like most things in sports we're really looking for winning.

He spent an entire offseason trying to get an NFL job, moron. He took the UNC job AFTER not getting a single bite from the NFL in 2024.

And you're a fool if you don't realize his representatives had a handle on what NFL jobs would be opening and if any of them would have been interested in him.

Newsflash: They weren't.
word is he called the Jets before accepting the UNC job

Truth hurts.

And if you think Belichick took the UNC job while an NFL team - any NFL team - indicated interest in him then you're dumber than a box of rocks pet rock (whatever that means).
That's far from definitive truth the writer himself questions wether it was genuine. Reads more like some BS story that gets him a couple of clicks. But like I said if you want to believe it you're a few peas short of a casserole. The problem with stupidity is it doesn't always recognize itself.

Bill would have to say it himself for me to believe something as far fetched as that. I've stood next to reporters who were laughing amongst themselves because a report got out there with unamed sources and they were laughing because they were the unnamed source because someone tried to scoop them when overheard a conversation the day before in which said reporters were actually just speculating.

I'm open to believing a lot of things are possible, but I'm not believing that one based upon the "sources" cited. Any other team? Maybe. Jets? NFW...

That really puts a new spin on it.
The owners started meddling in personnel again after the 2020 season. Bob literally announced it to the world at the owner’s meeting. Bill confirmed it in an interview a month or so ago.

It also wasn’t Bill’s idea to switch to a West Coast offense in 2022, this was a request made from on high.

You doubt these things?

Some coaches are ****s and aholes to players. Again, who cares? Roger Staubach hated Tom Landry. Terry Bradshaw hated Chuck Noll. Joe Montana hated Bill Walsh. See a trend here? BB was old school. He didn't give two ****s about feelings. He cared about getting every last ounce of production out of a player and it worked until it didn't. In that process we as fans benefited more than anyone who ever was a fan of an NFL team.

Except for JE11 all of those players where the highest paid at their position at one point in time. How is that disrespect? What are you defining it as?

I searched and couldn’t find anything to support the idea that any of those quarterbacks “ hated” their coach. They had conflicts with them, it wasn’t always sunshine bc and roses, but no hate. For that matter I don’t think Brady hated Belichick either, he just got completely fed up with playing for him, and it’s impossible to measure the difference because none of them had the option of free agency. You seem to feel Belichick’s behavior was fine, I don’t agree, most of Belichick’s greatest players were sick and tired of them when they left New England, and it was because he went out of his way to be a ****. I think that’s a shame, and wish things had played out differently.

If he took college job at a second rate program I find it hard to believe he would have turned down any NFL job.

I agree, he would have taken any NFL job over a college job.

One season last year he listened to offers, the only one that got close was Atlanta but the owner’s #1 guy torpedoed the deal.

Every year there are only a handful or few job openings, a lot of those are terrible jobs no good coach wants. Nobody wants to work for Jerry Jones or the Jets for example.

Bill was seemingly waiting for this season to job hunt again, but months before the NFL season ended and all jobs became available… he was already signing with North Carolina.

This was a laugh riot for all you over dramatic soap opera driven haters who insisted Bill cared about his “legacy.” As if he had to do more as a pro… laughable.

If a great pro job opens up he might take it, but that wasn’t available last season.

Cimini is the Jets Reiss. Yes if he said there was contact then there’s no reason to think there wasn’t. I think he was probably kicking the tires and that’s it.

"Hate" might have been the wrong word to use. Point is all the QBs I mentioned had serious conflicts with their coach as did positional players at one time or another. Check out the Bill Walsh - A Football Life documentary and you'll better understand my point.

Saying i'm "fine" with it is not accurate. Bill's behavior towards his players never won him congeniality awards but it is not without decades of precedent as many NFL coaches had the same approach towards their players.

What you seem to not acknowledge is NFL coaches throughout history cull from a library of psychological approaches to motivate players. Bill was no different than Landry, Shula, Noll, Walsh, Jimmy Johnson, Coughlin, etc.

How about win something without Brady. .426 w-l post Tom is complete trash and it’s his own doing.

Bill worked for the hated media to try and stay relevant to the league owners (he was actually good at it)
Bill had a clause in his UNC deal allowing him an out to leave

No reason except Cimini himself questions if it was genuine in his own article. He clearly heard something that he felt was worthy of getting clicks but didn't believe enough to not openly question whether it was genuine.

When you’re a hater even an opaque rumor is factual, while things we all witnessed in real time as a shared lived experience aren’t.

Thus the saying…

We all hate the local media outside of a few personalities. You’re the rare exception that loves them all.

He drafted and developed Brady.

.426 after Brady. Complete garbage. Now he’s embarrassing himself off the field too. Laughingstock.
