Looking ahead to cutdowns and waiver (EDIT: First names announced)

Our OL has been one of the worst for the last 3 straight years, so it makes sense that we're just turning the page.
For that reason alone I wouldn't be surprised to see Strange gone. I've been a believer in his potential, but he's firmly on the bubble. And so far, I'd rather have Brown start games at either LG or C than Strange, although he does seem to be a valuable versatile backup at all IOL spots.
OK, so Strange is a versatile, NFL quality backup at 3 positions. And the CONCLUSION is that he isn't good enough to be the #10 OL? I don't get it.

Do you really think that much of Brown and Wallace that you want them as our only IOL backups? If you want to look to another team or to a free agent, shouldn't we keep Strange until we get that player?

Dowling should not be compared to Polk or Richards.

Dowling couldn’t overcome injuries, Richards couldn’t overcome lack of talent.
Richards was in the NFL for 6 years playing for 4 different teams. Richards had a significantly more distingushed career than Dowling or Polk.

Perhaps we should simply call this a Mayo draft and move on. BTW, we've had worse drafts, even recently. This will be remembered as the Maye draft much as we had the Bledsoe Draft, the Brady draft and the Jones draft. The QB choice overshadows everything else.

Maye, Dial and Milton were good picks.
Wallace may be a 2026 starter.
Polk and Robinson were poor picks
Baker was a very long shot in the dark
========

1 MAYE - our future
2 POLK - will go to IR
3 WALLACE -backup OG
4 ROBINSON - waived injured
4 BAKER - TBD
==============
6 DIAL - IR
6 MILTON - traded for a better pick
7 BELL waived
IIRC, doesn't waived injured mean that he will revert to IR if he clears waivers?

This is related to cutdowns and waivers how? LOL
About as much as State’s post up thread suggesting gum it should pay the right people to breed.

You are both guilty of speeding? But you are less guilty?

Last folks to try what he suggested were the German Nazis, before they lost WW2. Ignoring a Nazi idea just opens the door to things going from bad to worse.

No it doesnt. We do not need Internet police on the forum - Ian and Ross do that. Just let it go.

This is a good example of the "game" guys versus "practice" guys. Some players simply are not going to shine in practice, but get them on the field, under the lights and pressure and that's when they're showing out to their potential.
It also says something about preseason vs. regular season. I remember people wanting to cut Cassel during the preseason games.

BTW, an observation: so far (Fri. night) the Pats have released more players than any other team.
I had another thought. It was suggested by a couple of comments on NFL Replay on Sirius. They pointed out that teams at the top of the waiver wire can end up picking lots of players.

They also commented repeatedly about how there are usually about three positions teams are looking to upgrade from waivers during the cutdown, and how there was an interview with Vrabel where he was asked about what three positions the Pats might try to upgrade from waivers and he rolled his eyes and responded “more like ten or twelve”.

It made me wonder if Vrabel is trying to get all the cuts done early so his staff has more bandwidth available for evaluating players cut by other teams.
