The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

You don’t have to pine for glory days to understand football.
And you don’t have to play football to understand the intricacies of pro football.
Having played it at even the peewee level helps though.
No…. no it kinda really doesn’t. Playing at the peewee level doesn’t give you any special insight to the intricacies of the NFL.

I was hoping BB would do well at UNC but after he gave that whiny interview to Volin now I’m looking forward to a sub .500 season from his team. And the Team Bill excuses which are always comical.

This simply isn’t believable.

Brady didn’t start until year two, and he was really average… but the team around him was very good.

Mahomes was MVP but couldn’t win it all because his defense sucked. In fact Drew Brees led the entire NFL in passing on a top five offense for three years (2014-2016) in a row, but his defense was ranked 32nd or near it all three years… and he won 7 games all three years… but fanboys here think it’s just the QB.

Not sniffing a Super Bowl is what Bill Belichick did when he only had 1 winning season out of 6 without Brady. Weirdly he starts Brady once and goes from a loser to a SB winning HC overnight.

Being an MVP who was in overtime of an AFFCG that they would have won if one player didn't go offsides a few plays earlier is absolutely sniffing a Super Bowl. It's about the absolute closest you possibly could be to a Super Bowl without actually being in one.

When you have to grossly mischaracterize what happened because it's inconvenient to your obsession with boosting one coach at the expense of everyone else, then you are the one fangirling.

Then agian.... you are the person who drove everyone on this board miserable in the offseason of 2023 saying the Patriots were going to be good and everyone who was saying they were going to have issues was merely doom posting. Then they won a whopping 4 games.

So maybe you should learn the game, because your take on these things usually don't reflect reality.

Yeah… when the defense improved. Learn the game. Brady won in 2001 despite being pretty average as a first year starter. It’s a team sport. Stop acting like a cheerleader in love with the QB, it’s embarrassing for a man at your age.
I’ve been saying this for almost a quarter century now, all the way back to the old Usenet:

The Patriots went from 5-13 before Brady to 14-3 and Super Bowl champions with him. Some morons think this is just a coincidence.

BB lovers can’t cope with their hoodied hero being exposed to the tune of a .426 record post Brady. He sucked before Brady and sucked after.

Hence the excuses.

Who built every team that Brady won a Super Bowl with?

While I believe Brady was the most important part of every Belichick team, and every Lombardi they won, he didn’t do it by himself. It took innumerable great coaches and players all working together to obtain those championships. Neither Belichick or Brady would have been as successful without other doing everything they could to make them happen, and the idea that either could have or did do it on their own is ridiculous.

11-3 then 3-0 in the playoffs.

“Pretty average”
1 TD, 1 INT in the entire 3 game playoff… slightly better than average completion percentage and average yards per attempt. Average.

And you don’t have to play football to understand the intricacies of pro football.
Some people here are embarrassingly ignorant to how football works, some team sports in general… so they clearly would have benefited from it.

Indeed an interesting choice to share his soul with, probably because the better media members don't make time to travel to UNC to hear the rants of a bitter old man.

Building an entire program is a world of difference from a player pulling a Kevin Durant or Lebron James and simply leaving to a great situation. Again… learn the game.

The 2001 roster was wholly different than the 2000 roster. It wasn’t just one player, Richard Seymour is in the HOF, that’s not because Tom showed him how to be great. Ty Law, Vrabel, Bruschi… they needed Tom the same way he needed them. That’s how team sports work.

You guys can try all you want but it's facts that Superbowls XXI & XXV did exist and Bill won them. Brady was still eating lunchables at the time. Reid was in SB XXXIX when Mahomes was eating lunchables. The original statement I responded to was that Reid and BB hadn't sniffed a Superbowl before the great QBs which is completely false.

The bigger question is how Phil Simms got hurt, the Giants plugged Jeff Hostetler in and won it all. Years later Carson Wentz was front runner for the MVP award, he gets hurt, they plug Nick Foles in there and win it all. Joe Gibbs won three separate Super Bowls with three journeyman QB’s… but it’s all because of one player?

Sounds legit…

This what you guys sound like. You guys share some bad traits in common with Jerry Jones.

Also coaches need great assistant coaches. Doug Pederson looks like crap without Frank Reich running his offense, Jim Schwartz his defense and Howie Roseman building his roster. It’s not just players, it’s coaches… it’s team.

Doug Pederson has a statue outside Eagles stadium… give me a break.

Fanboys will never understand, theirs is a cheerleader’s understanding of football.

Meanwhile, late-period BB in 2022 hires defense guy Matt Patricia to run his offense, special teamer Joe Judge to run his defense, gives his two sons jobs as LB and DB coaches, doesn't bother to name an OC or a DC, yet some people in this thread can't bring themselves to admit he had lost his fastball by then, wonders why the ownership started ramping up a succession plan, etc. Then in 2023 the band-aid of hiring Bill O'Brien gets applied but the bunny hunt is going full steam as things really go into the crapper.

Cause and effect. Had the owners not given away his Franchise tag leverage he wouldn't have built up mistrust to the point he hired for trust more than experience.

Let’s hear what your hoodied hero has to say about that.
