The Bill megathread (HC at UNC, girlfriend, etc.)

There’s no owner, there’s no owner’s son, there’s no [salary] cap, everything that goes with the marketing and everything else, which I’m all for that,” Belichick told Volin.

That will get him a statue.

Both need to go watch episode 8 of the Cowboys Documentary and don't let 30 years of this rift pass.

‘owner’s son’ was def an interesting add-on… Whether BB lost his fastball or not, dude’s always interesting.

Why? Bob is largely the figure-head, Jonathan is the day-to-day executive in charge.

Seems natural Bill would butt heads the most with Jonathan.

Also seems natural that the son of a government employee would resent a rich guy's kid who gets to tell him what to do.

If CFB is so great, then the joke's on Bill for wasting so many years in the NFL.

Meanwhile his buddy Nick Saban told CFB to stick it where the sun don't shine.

Bill is talking like a jilted lover, kinda doing the Linda Holliday thing but in the football realm.

"The Patriots Suck, I'm So Much Happier Now" yada yada.

Happy that Bill is happy Bunny hunting at UNC, nice way to coast after a long and stressful NFL career.

Bill's right. RKK is an idiot for extending Bill before the 2023 season. Bill needed a prove it year and only thing he proved is what the rest of the NFL knew, RKK chose the wrong person in 2020.

Yep. Bet on the wrong horse. I'm sure he had regrets.

LOL RKK didn't have a choice in 2020. Firing Bill in 2020 would have created a bigger mess that Brady would have ran from even faster.

Maybe in the years prior Kraft could have some how made Brady happier and that maybe could have led to Bill leaving instead of Brady.

Yep. Jerruh and Jimmy still have their problems

I just finished E4. It's a really good show.

I find myself liking Jerry Jones and all his flaws

That was an unnecessary shot that cost him a statue and any chance, if he wanted it, to come back and work for an owner to set the all-time wins record. No owner wants someone that despises them. And Kraft will close the door on recognizing Belichick, other than the inevitable Pats Hall of Fame.

It seems so obvious in hindsight.

2020: The Cam Newton season. Covid in full bloom. Dump salaries, tank for better draft position and hope to get a decent QB. All seems justified.

2021: Mac Jones picked up at 15 and looks like he can be a starter, McDD still running the offense, lots of money spent on FA. Arrows pointing up, so it seems.

2022: McDD leaves, BB pulls the MP/JJ coaching staff out of his ass, things go to hell.

So indeed 2023 was the year to blow it all up, but you are talking about firing what the guy that was viewed as being the GOAT of coaches. The Krafts should have blown it all up, but clearly didn't have the testicular fortitude to do so, and the end result was ****ty seasons in 2023 and 2024.

Bill's farcical Bunny hunting and taking a highly paid position at a middling at best CFB team while packing the coaching staff with relatives and friends just shows how far he has sunk.

Sure, but that's what one expects when you have editorial control.

Or maybe the owner and his son should have just stayed out of the way.

I find myself really liking Emmitt not that I didn't already.

So many parallels to be seen comparing the 2.....both positive in how you can see things that allowed ours to last longer but also negative in that we eventually fell into some of the same traps.

Emmitt is a good dude.

Bill and Jimmy are alike as well. Both defensive minded, micromanagers.

Throwing the "owner's son" is there hints that there were a lot of issues with Jonathan that we don't really know about.

It is obviously a difference structure, but college has its drawbacks. You have to deal with ADs, University Presidents and the boosters who easily bully the AD's and University Presidents.

You also have to deal with almost-still-children who have more power over their careers than their NFL counterparts. If you piss a player off, he'll quit on you after game 3, maintain that year of eligibility, hit the transfer portal, and you can't do a damn thing about it except wave goodbye.

Right, and if so you'd be a St Louis Stallions fan right now.
They learned a lot after that and seemingly forgot it all while Bill was running things and then have made a lot mistakes the last few years.

One thing you can do about it is make sure he’s been a healthy scratch for the rest of the season when you wave goodbye when he hits the transfer portal. And first have a conversation with him about how you only play players that give their best and how not giving his best will affect his value over the course of his career. In short, explain in detail the meaning of FAFO.
